New Years
How can we say Happy New Years when we leave one year in a season of death that has just started. When we have the mindset that every year must start in winter, which is the death of life, then what is that saying to our subconscious? New Year is supposed to represent a new slate, a time to start over with new life. Jesus said that he came to give us life and give life to us more abundantly yet we celebrate our new life with a celebration of death.
As we approach the New Year, many people are reflective about the past year and set resolutions for the year ahead. However, the concept of New Year's Day often coincides with the winter season, which traditionally symbolizes dormancy and death in nature. This raises intriguing questions about the symbolism of starting anew during a time that outwardly reflects the end of cycles. In various cultures, the new year isn’t always celebrated on January 1st. Many communities observe a different timing, such as the Chinese New Year, which falls between January 21 and February 20, correlating with the arrival of spring, a time of renewal and growth. The timing of such celebrations can influence our mindset around change -- emphasizing fresh starts amidst the natural cycles of life. Additionally, we can draw insights from spiritual teachings which highlight the importance of living fully and embracing the opportunities for life and rebirth. Jesus’ teachings encourage believers to embrace a mindset of abundance and hope. As we transition from one year to the next, we can align our celebrations with these teachings, focusing on the life-affirming aspects of new beginnings, rather than dwelling on themes of death. This year, consider making your resolutions not only about personal improvement, but also about enhancing your understanding of seasonal changes and their impact on your mindset. Embrace the symbolism of spring and the life it brings, regardless of the calendar date. In doing so, you not only celebrate a new year but also cultivate an atmosphere of life-affirming growth and vibrancy.
