In NYC
Having been to JUQI a few times, I can say itâs become my go-to place for authentic Beijing flavors here in New York! I first came here last March, and the Peking Duck immediately won me overâitâs seriously one of the best in NYC!
Having spent 4 years in Beijing for university, I was craving all the classic Beijing street foods. JUQI brings that feeling backâwhile it may not be 100% identical to what I had in Beijing, itâs definitely a solid option in NYC, especially considering there arenât many spots offering authentic Beijing cuisine here.
Here are the standout dishes Iâd recommend:
1. Lu Zhi Huo Shao : This dish is an absolute must-try! Itâs got all the right ingredients: pork intestine, tofu, and pig lung, all mixed with chewy huo shao (a kind of fried bread). The flavors are spot on!
2. Peking Duck: Be sure to go for the whole duck, not half. The skin is crispy, the meat tender, and itâs served with the classic accompaniments. Iâve heard some say the half duck doesnât always deliver, so I highly recommend the full experience.
3. Qianlong Cabbage: This is a surprising one! The cabbage is incredibly crispâI didnât expect it to be so refreshing and satisfying.
4. Duck Mi Fu Da Bao: A light, refreshing option that pairs beautifully with duck sauce. A nice balance to the richer dishes.
5. Chao Gan: This is a dish thatâs a bit more polarizing, but Iâm a fan! If you enjoy offal, this dish will make you nostalgic for the real Beijing experience.
While there are some mixed reviews online, JUQI is definitely one of the top choices for Beijing cuisine in NYC, especially if you miss those flavors from Beijing. Iâll definitely be back to explore more of the menu!
