Frennamy Test
February 14, 2026
Let’s continue this ongoing test to identify if someone in your life might be a friennamy.
Examples:
• They only value you when you are useful to them.
• They ignore your growth and treat you like your past self.
• They become silent when you speak with confidence.
• They avoid giving you credit where it’s due.
• They try to keep you emotionally dependent on them.

From my personal experience, recognizing a friennamy can be subtle at first, but once you know what to look for, it becomes much clearer. A friennamy is someone who appears to be your friend but undermines your growth and confidence behind the scenes. For example, they may only reach out when they need something from you, showing little genuine interest in your success or happiness. I've seen situations where a friend refused to acknowledge my achievements, instead reminiscing about old mistakes to keep me feeling small. They might also avoid giving you credit, which can weigh heavily on your self-esteem over time. Another common behavior is remaining silent when you express confidence or new ideas, signaling discomfort or jealousy. Emotional dependence is one of the most challenging aspects. A friennamy may try to make you reliant on them by discouraging your independence or making you doubt your decisions. In my experience, setting clear boundaries and maintaining self-awareness are crucial to managing these relationships. Identifying these signs early helps you decide how much emotional energy to invest and when to step back for your well-being. Remember, true friends celebrate your growth and credit your achievements—they don’t hold you back or keep you tied down emotionally.
