POV #6
Proximity shows up when it’s easy.
Loyalty shows up when it costs something.
From my own experience, proximity often feels natural because it requires minimal effort—people who are physically or emotionally close tend to be easy to interact with and share moments effortlessly. For example, coworkers sharing a lunch break or neighbors chatting casually are instances where proximity is evident. However, true loyalty tests our values and commitments deeply. It appears when it costs us something significant, such as standing by a friend in difficult times or making personal sacrifices for those we care about. I’ve noticed that loyalty involves a conscious choice to prioritize others even when it’s inconvenient or challenging. This powerful distinction has helped me appreciate the relationships I have, realizing that those who stay through tough circumstances demonstrate genuine loyalty. Understanding this difference can strengthen personal connections and encourage us to invest in meaningful bonds rather than just convenient ones.
