THE WAY I NEVER DID THAT BAKUGO COS 💀

It's wild how fast time flies! Seeing this old post from 2019 brought back so many memories of when I was planning a Bakugo cosplay. I remember being super excited about it, diving deep into his character design and trying to figure out which version of his costume to tackle. It's funny how some projects just never quite get off the ground, but the research phase was always half the fun! One of the biggest challenges, and also the most interesting part, was looking at Bakugo's costume evolution throughout My Hero Academia (MHA). He's got his iconic U.A. high school uniform, of course, but then there's his hero suit, which changes subtly over time. Early on, his hero costume was quite simple, focusing on the grenade gauntlets and a basic tank top. But as the series progressed, his gear became more refined, adding elements like the face mask, the neck brace, and more intricate arm pieces. If I were to pick one for a full cosplay, I'd probably lean towards his later hero suit; it just feels more dynamic and powerful, showcasing his growth as a hero. It’s not just about looking cool; these evolutions often reflect his development as a character too. Beyond the costumes, I spent so much time just observing Bakugo's expressions. It sounds weird, but finding the 'cute Bakugo face' is a real thing for cosplayers! He's known for being explosive and angry, but there are these rare, almost endearing moments where he looks genuinely surprised, or confused, or even a little flustered. Those are the 'cute faces' that make him so much more than just a hot-headed rival. Capturing that nuanced personality through expressions is key to a good Bakugo portrayal. I even remember trying to practice some of his more iconic 'grumpy but secretly soft' looks in the mirror. It's all about finding that balance between his aggressive exterior and the glimpses of vulnerability that fans adore. Thinking about the practicalities, what makes a Bakugo cosplay truly stand out? First, those spiky blonde bangs are non-negotiable! Getting the wig styling just right is a huge task itself. Then there are the gauntlets – making them look sturdy yet wearable is an art. I considered using EVA foam for a lightweight but impactful design, ensuring they could withstand conventions. And let's not forget the attitude! Bakugo's personality is almost as important as his costume. You have to embody that fierce determination and explosive energy, even if you're just posing for photos. It's all about getting 'out of character' (OOC, as we say in the community) to embody him fully. Even though my 2019 Bakugo cosplay never came to fruition, just reminiscing about the planning makes me want to start a new one! Maybe one day I'll finally get to show off my take on his explosive hero look and nail one of those surprisingly 'cute Bakugo faces.' It's a journey, right?
