Old messages from my ex

... Read moreIt's truly wild how some exes just can't let go, isn't it? I’ve been reflecting on some old messages recently, and it brought back so many memories – not all good ones, of course. When we talk about "toxic ex messages" or "toxic texts from ex," it's more than just a bad breakup; it's about persistent patterns of manipulation, control, and disrespect that linger long after the relationship officially ends. I remember getting texts that would just leave me speechless. It's one thing to have a difficult conversation, but another entirely when an ex tries to reel you back into their world, often with suggestive demands or manipulative language. For instance, I’ve seen messages where an ex would use old pet names, like calling me their "good girl," to try and exert control or make inappropriate requests, even hinting at sending photos or trying to get me to "take it off." It's a huge red flag when someone tries to blur the lines of a past relationship, especially when they know those words or phrases used to have a different meaning. Then there are the boundary-pushing conversations. You might think you've moved on, but an ex might try to keep the door open, suggesting you "could talk about anything, even sexually," or constantly asking why you changed your mind about cutting off contact. It feels like they're trying to keep a hold on you, even if it's just through an emotional connection. It’s exhausting trying to navigate those waters, constantly feeling like you have to justify your distance or your decisions. And sometimes, the messages can be just plain bizarre. I've seen everything from mundane updates like "talking to my grandma" quickly followed by intense or unrelated topics, to outright strange comments like expressing a strong dislike for children (specifically, their sister’s children). These kinds of erratic shifts in conversation, or sharing extreme views, can be another form of manipulation, designed to provoke a reaction or keep you engaged in their drama. It makes you wonder what their true intentions are. Dealing with these kinds of "past relationship reflection" moments can be tough, but it’s so important to recognize these toxic patterns. If you're receiving messages that make you feel uncomfortable, pressured, or disrespected, it's okay to set firm boundaries, or even to block them entirely. Your peace of mind is paramount. Don't let anyone, especially an ex, dictate your emotional state or try to control your actions after a breakup. Protecting your energy from these "toxic ex messages" is a form of self-care. Has anyone else experienced similar kinds of toxic texts or bizarre conversations? I’d love to hear your thoughts and what helped you cope!
