... Read moreHey everyone! It's been a bit, but I'm back with some art talk, and I wanted to dive deeper into the process of bringing an OC to life, especially one for the Hazbin Hotel universe. Creating an Original Character (OC) for a fandom you love, like HH, is such a rewarding experience! It's not just about drawing; it's about building a whole new personality and story.
When I started brainstorming this new HH OC, I thought about what kind of demon would fit into that vibrant, chaotic world. What's their unique quirk? What's their sin? For my latest piece, I envisioned a character that not only fit the HH aesthetic but also embraced a distinct style – scenecore.
Bringing Scenecore to Hell: Designing My HH OC
Scenecore is a fantastic aesthetic to play with because it's all about bold expressions, vibrant colors, and a nod to early 2000s emo and scene subcultures. How do you translate that into a demon? For this character, I focused on some key elements. I wanted to give her really distinctive curly hair that had that playful, dramatic volume. Then, thinking about accessories, a black rose felt like the perfect touch – a hint of beauty and darkness, very fitting for both scenecore and Hazbin Hotel.
Her facial features were crucial too. I aimed for large, expressive dark eyes to convey emotion, often a mix of sass and vulnerability. And her wavy lips added another layer of attitude. All these details come together to create a character that feels unique yet perfectly at home in the underworld.
From Sketch to Rendered: My Art Journey
The journey from a rough idea to a finished piece is my favorite part. It always starts with a sketch, doesn't it? Just loose lines, trying to find the pose and expression. This is where the character truly begins to take shape. For this particular art, that initial sketch was so important for getting the overall feel right before I committed to details.
After the initial sketching phase, the real work of rendering begins. This is where you refine the lines, add depth with shading, and bring in all those vibrant colors. Seeing the character evolve from simple strokes to a fully rendered illustration is incredibly satisfying. It's a meticulous process, but every hour spent—and trust me, it often takes many, many hours, sometimes upwards of 10 hours for a detailed piece like this one!—is worth it when you see your vision come to life. Don't be afraid to put in the time; dedication truly shows in the final product.
Why Your Support Means the World
As artists, we pour so much of ourselves into our creations. That's why community and support are so vital. When you see an artist share something they've worked hard on, be it a new HH OC, a scenecore girl drawing, or any other passion project, a simple "like" or comment can make a huge difference. It's that encouragement that keeps us going, pushing us to create more and share our art with the world. So, please stay and support your favorite creators – it genuinely fuels their passion and helps them grow.
I hope this peek into my creative process inspires you to explore your own character designs or art styles. What kind of OCs are you working on? What are your go-to tips for rendering or sketching? Let me know!
as an artist, I don't think that took 10 hours, but its Hella cute!
