When I first thought about what to do in The Bronx, I admit, my mind immediately went to the famous Bronx Zoo. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! As one of the largest zoos in the US, it's an incredible place to spend a whole day. My absolute highlight was the Tiger Mountain exhibit. Watching those magnificent tigers roam in their spacious habitat was truly mesmerizing. It felt so immersive, and you really get a sense of their natural behaviors. Beyond the tigers, I highly recommend taking the Wild Asia Monorail – it offers unique views of animals like elephants and rhinos in larger, naturalistic settings. Planning your visit early in the morning can help you beat the crowds, especially if you want to see the animals at their most active. Don't forget to check out the Congo Gorilla Forest too; seeing the gorillas up close was another unforgettable experience for me. After the wildlife, I found a tranquil escape at the New York Botanical Garden. It’s not just a garden; it's a sprawling oasis that feels worlds away from the city. I was particularly struck by the beauty of the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory – stepping inside felt like entering a different climate zone, with tropical plants and exotic flowers. If you're visiting in spring, try to catch the Orchid Show; the displays are absolutely stunning. And around the holidays, the Holiday Train Show is a magical experience for all ages, with miniature trains winding through famous NYC landmarks made from natural materials. My tip: wear comfortable walking shoes because there's so much ground to cover, from serene forest trails to meticulously designed flower beds. It's truly a place where you can connect with nature and unwind. And for a completely different flavor of The Bronx, Arthur Avenue is an absolute must-visit! Forget Manhattan’s Little Italy; this is the real deal. I spent an afternoon simply wandering, soaking in the authentic Italian atmosphere. The aroma of fresh bread and rich sauces fills the air. Of course, I had to try a slice from Tony & Tina's Pizzeria, and it was classic New York deliciousness. But don't stop there! I also popped into Egidio Pastry Shop, and their cannolis were divine – a perfect sweet treat to cap off a meal. Beyond the famous eateries, explore the specialty delis, butcher shops, and bakeries. I picked up some fresh pasta and Italian cheeses that were just incredible. It truly feels like stepping into a vibrant, old-world Italian neighborhood, and it’s one of my favorite Bronx landmarks for foodies!
