NYC Tips: Thanksgiving day parade balloon blow up

If you’re traveling to New York for Thanksgiving, don’t miss one of the best traditions since 1927, seeing the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloon Blow Up!

Here’s what you need to know:

The balloon blow up  takes place on the streets surrounding the American Museum of Natural History on the Upper West Side (at Columbus Avenue at W 77th) the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day (and the parade) from 12 PM to 6 PM.

You can see the balloons getting blown up and how they are carefully held under nets with sandbags to weigh them down until the next morning

Follow the line, there will likely be one as this is a popular spectator event! The line moves pretty quickly. If you come with friends you can take turns grabbing a warm drink from a cafe or use a restroom!

Once you’re inside the area, you can walk around and see the balloons!

... Read moreThe Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloon Inflation is a beloved NYC tradition where visitors can witness iconic balloons being inflated the day before the parade. This event occurs annually on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 12 PM to 6 PM, around the American Museum of Natural History on the Upper West Side. As you approach, anticipate lines, as this popular spectacle draws crowds eager to see their favorite floats come to life. The organized lines ensure a smooth experience but be prepared with warm drinks from nearby cafes. During the event, balloons are carefully held down with sandbags, giving spectators a unique view of their preparation. This extraordinary occasion not only offers a sneak peek into the upcoming parade but also combines the festive atmosphere of NYC during the holidays with vibrant displays of artistry. Be sure to take your time while walking around and capturing memories among the colorful balloons. This is an unforgettable experience for families, friends, and solo travelers alike. Don't miss out on capturing photos and enjoying the magical ambiance as millions of visitors have done since the event began in 1927.
