Fun Christmas themed spots in NYC
Traveling to NYC during the holiday season? Check out these fun festive Christmas themed spots in New York to visit!
Holly Jolly Bar
This fun, festive holiday pop up bar takes place at SAINT RESTAURANT BAR & SPEAKEASY on the Lower East Side. You have to pay a $15-18 reservation fee which comes with a welcome shot or welcome cocktail (all festive of course!).
The halls and bar area are covered floor to ceiling with tinsel and holiday decor!
It’s 21+ over only!
Lillie's Victorian Establishment
This Victorian-themed bar has two locations, one in Times Square and one in Union Square. Both are typically decked to the halls with over the top holiday decor! Each year they rotate out which holiday decor they use with their sister properties but you can usually count on larger than life stuffed animals (sometimes they move) and TONS of sparkly and twinkly decor!
This restaurant is dedicated to the famous Irish playwright and is home to the longest bar in NYC! During the holidays they always get decked out and have really great gin and tonic cocktails!

Visiting New York City during the winter truly feels like stepping into a movie scene, especially as the holidays approach! While the festive bars I mentioned earlier, like Holly Jolly and Lillie's (who doesn't love seeing a giant stuffed teddy bear hanging from the ceiling or sipping from a Santa boot-shaped mug?!), are essential for a cozy drink amidst incredible decorations, there's so much more to soak in during a New York winter that goes beyond just the Christmas spirit. One of my absolute favorite things to do is wander through the holiday markets. Bryant Park's Winter Village is a must-see! You can find unique gifts from local artisans, grab delicious seasonal treats like hot chocolate or churros, and even go ice skating with the iconic New York Public Library as your backdrop. It's such a magical vibe, all lit up with twinkling lights and festive ornaments. I always make sure to try a new food vendor each time I visit! Union Square also hosts a fantastic holiday market with a more local, handcrafted feel, perfect for finding one-of-a-kind souvenirs. Speaking of lights, you can't visit NYC in winter without seeing the famous Fifth Avenue window displays. Every year, department stores like Saks and Macy's outdo themselves with incredible, elaborate setups that are practically works of art. It’s perfect for a leisurely stroll, soaking in all the glamour and cheer, especially as the sun sets and the city truly twinkles. I remember one year Saks had a projection show on their building that was absolutely mesmerizing – it felt like the building itself was dancing! And of course, no winter trip to NYC is complete without a visit to Rockefeller Center. Seeing that massive Christmas tree, surrounded by crowds and the golden Prometheus statue, is just breathtaking. You can skate there too, though be prepared for a wait and a higher price tag – it's an iconic experience! For a slightly less crowded ice-skating option, Wollman Rink in Central Park offers stunning skyline views. Imagine gliding across the ice with the city's towering buildings all around you, maybe even with a light snow falling – pure magic! If you're looking for something a bit quieter, exploring the charming West Village or Greenwich Village with their historic, decorated brownstones can be incredibly cozy. Imagine a light snowfall, grabbing a warm drink from a local cafe, and just taking in the atmosphere. It’s a perfect escape from the bustling Midtown crowds. I love finding a tiny, independent bookstore and warming up with a good read and a cup of coffee. For those colder days, I always recommend exploring some of NYC's world-class museums – they offer a warm escape and incredible art and history. The Met, MoMA, or the American Museum of Natural History are perfect ways to spend a chilly afternoon. And don't forget to bundle up! Layers are your best friend for a New York winter, especially if you plan on doing a lot of walking. A good waterproof coat, gloves, a hat, and comfortable, warm shoes are essential. From the dazzling lights to the cozy corners and endless things to do, experiencing winter in NYC is an unforgettable adventure. Whether you're admiring a massive polar bear statue at a decked-out bar or simply enjoying a hot chocolate while watching the city go by, it’s truly special and worth every bundled-up moment.
