How to get Broadway rush tickets in NYC

If you’re like me and terrible at planning ahead for shows you want to see on Broadway in New York then listen up!

You can still see a show you have your heart set on the same day as the show with rush tickets! Plus they are steeply discounted as theaters leave a certain amount of rush tickets available for every show.

Each person can get up to 2 tickets on a first come, first serve basis.

I recently did this for Oh Mary at Lyceum Theatre and we got great seats! Although, the first time I tried I failed, the second time I tried I succeeded!

Here’s how to do it:

Today Tix: this app has some shows and plays on it and you need to be ready promptly at 9 AM to buy those tickets on the app! This is the easiest way - you just have to pay attention to buying the tickets on time!

(Oh Mary doesn’t have this option by the way! But other shows do!)

In person at the box office: This is what I did! Head to the box office of the theater on the morning of for the show you want to see. The earlier the better!

You’ll likely have to wait in line for a few hours, if you’re close to the front you’ll likely get a spot!

Tip: Check the website Broadway Rush Report to see how early people are getting in line the week you want to go!

Something to keep in mind are some of these rush tickets have partial view seating, check the website A View From My Seat to see the view!

Also, not all shows have rush tickets, like Hamilton! So make sure you research before you go!

Good luck!

... Read moreBroadway rush tickets offer an exciting and economical way for theater lovers to enjoy popular shows in New York City without purchasing tickets weeks in advance. These discounted tickets are typically released on the day of the performance and are available on a first-come, first-served basis, allowing eager fans to experience Broadway magic spontaneously. To maximize your chances of securing rush tickets, it is essential to arrive early at the theater’s box office. The wait time can sometimes be several hours, especially for highly sought-after productions. Checking websites like Broadway Rush Report can provide valuable real-time insights about how early patrons are lining up for various shows on any given day. Preparing for an early start will increase your likelihood of getting tickets to your preferred show. Additionally, the TodayTix app is an essential tool for obtaining rush or lottery tickets online. The app releases tickets promptly at 9 AM, so users need to be ready to act quickly. However, note not all shows participate in app-based rush programs—for example, "Oh Mary!" at the Lyceum Theatre does not offer this option. Hence, familiarizing yourself with individual show policies before heading to the theater can save time and frustration. Be aware that many rush tickets come with certain limitations, such as partial view seating. Websites like A View From My Seat allow theatergoers to preview specific seat locations and their sightlines, helping you make informed decisions about whether to purchase these discounted tickets. Moreover, some blockbuster shows like "Hamilton" do not offer rush tickets at all, so researching availability in advance is critical. In summary, leveraging early arrival at box offices, monitoring trusted ticketing apps, and using online resources for seating reviews empowers you to enjoy Broadway shows in NYC affordably and spontaneously. With persistence and savvy preparation, you can experience the thrill of Broadway at a fraction of the price using rush tickets.
