my fav things to do in NYC during the holidays!
Listen up, the holidays is one of the best and worst times in New York! Why? Well, the crowds but the city is literally MAGICAL! I get why so many want to see it and experience it!
I love this time of year and there are certain places I avoid during the holiday season, especially certain spots in Midtown Manhattan at certain times - but there’s also a few favorite spots I never skip each year!
Dyker Heights Christmas lights!
This Brooklyn neighborhood gets decked out for the holidays and in my opinion, it’s as cool as it looks in photos! The trick is, to go early before it gets dark and walk around at dusk before all the tour buses arrive!
Nutcracker Ballet at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts
If you want a timeless New York Christmas experience! Book tickets to see the New York City Ballet’s rendition of the Nutcracker!
Whether you go see the Rockette’s Christmas Spectacular or not, just seeing Radio City Music Hall at Christmas is a delight! I love when a yellow taxi passes in front of it lit up at night!
Tip: there are oversized holiday decor across the street and you can get some cool photos of those with Radio City in the backdrop for a little artsy flair to your photos!
New York Stock Exchange Christmas Tree
This is one of my favorite trees in the city and it never has crowds!

As a New Yorker who cherishes the holiday season, I never skip visiting some of the most iconic spots that truly capture the festive spirit. The holiday season in NYC can be crowded, but the magic is undeniable, especially when you know the best times and places to visit. One must-see event is the dazzling Christmas lights in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. This neighborhood transforms into a winter wonderland with extravagant light displays and holiday decorations that rival any postcard. My advice is to arrive early, ideally before dusk, to enjoy a peaceful walk and capture beautiful photos before the tour buses fill the streets. Another classic holiday tradition is attending the Nutcracker Ballet performed by the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. This timeless performance perfectly encapsulates the Christmas spirit and is a wonderful experience for visitors and locals alike. Booking tickets in advance is highly recommended due to its popularity. Radio City Music Hall is also a highlight during the holidays. Whether you catch the Rockettes’ Christmas Spectacular or simply admire the historic venue's illuminated marquee at night, the atmosphere is truly special. For memorable photos, check out the oversized holiday decorations located across the street, providing a festive backdrop with Radio City shimmering behind. Don't forget to visit the New York Stock Exchange Christmas tree. Unlike the more crowded Rockefeller Center, this tree offers a quieter, equally festive experience with fewer crowds. It’s a perfect spot for a peaceful moment amid the city’s holiday bustle. Lastly, exploring Midtown Manhattan requires timing and planning. Some areas can become overwhelmingly busy, especially near Rockefeller Center and Fifth Avenue, so aim to visit early in the day or later in the evening to avoid large crowds. Incorporating these must-visit locations and tips will help anyone truly experience the holiday magic of New York City while enjoying authentic and memorable moments.
