weird habits i’ve quietly built that actually work. the unglamorous version of having it together.

no 5am wake ups. no cold showers. just small ugly habits that quietly changed how my brain works without me realizing how much until i tried stopping them.

start with the ugliest one first. that is always the one that works 🤍

Instead, small, almost ugly habits—like leaving my phone in another room for the first 30 minutes of the day—have made a surprisingly big difference. This simple action helps me avoid the compulsive reach for my phone before I’m even fully awake, which otherwise would reset my brain into distraction mode. Another change I adopted was focusing on one task at a time without my phone nearby. Initially, this felt unnatural and my brain fought against the lack of multitasking or background noise, but with persistence, single-tasking became the only way I could truly think and accomplish anything meaningful. This habit alone increased my productivity more than any multitasking hack. I also tackled the endless, mindless scrolling that was eating my focus by using an app that adds a 'cost' to scrolling. Once I hit my limit, the app interrupts me with growth cards I need to complete before I can continue. This made the habit less effortless and encouraged me to put the phone down more often. It’s a subtle but powerful way to reclaim control over your attention. The key takeaway for me has been to start with the ugliest, most inconvenient habit first—because that one tends to have the biggest impact. These small changes might not look glamorous or inspire Pinterest boards, but quietly, they give you your brain back. It’s a reminder that self-improvement doesn’t always come from radical shifts but from consistent, manageable tweaks to how we approach our daily life.
