DreamFirst Apartment

I really want open windows and a cottagecore-esque kitchen and living room! Big windows and a bay window are my dream but I’m not expecting it in my #firstapartment and hopefully this #lemon8challenge goes well for everyone involved!

When I started envisioning my own space, I immediately gravitated towards a cottagecore-inspired kitchen and a generally cozy bedroom vibe. It’s all about creating a sanctuary that feels warm, inviting, and a little bit whimsical. For the kitchen, I'm dreaming of classic white subway tiles – they’re clean and really help open up a smaller space. Instead of bulky cabinets, wooden shelves displaying cookbooks, spices, and charming ceramic dishes can truly capture that rustic, lived-in feel. Imagine a little lamp on the counter for soft lighting, maybe a bowl of fresh fruit, and a vase of flowers – simple touches that make a huge difference. Thrift stores are amazing for finding unique teacups and vintage kitchen tools to complete the look without breaking the bank. My ideal bedroom is a true haven. I love the idea of a soft, layered bed with brown bedding for warmth and depth. The windows are key – sheer curtains, perhaps with a subtle mountain-print, can let in natural light while still providing privacy and a touch of the outdoors. A strategically placed wall lamp offers soft, ambient lighting perfect for winding down in the evenings. I also adore the idea of adding plants – even a few small ones can bring so much life and freshness to the room. For an extra special touch, imagine projecting a movie onto the wall above the bed for a truly warm and inviting bedroom experience. It’s about creating a space where you can truly relax and feel at peace after a long day. For the living room, I’m leaning into natural textures and comfortable furniture. Think soft throws, plush pillows, and maybe a small wooden coffee table made from reclaimed wood. Big windows are a dream, but even with standard ones, you can enhance the light with light-colored drapes and strategically placed mirrors to make the room feel larger. Incorporating elements like dried flowers, woven baskets, and handmade decor items really ties the cottagecore aesthetic together. Don't forget the power of scent – diffusers with earthy essential oils or a scented candle can make your apartment feel even cozier and more welcoming. Achieving this aesthetic doesn't have to break the bank. Look for second-hand furniture that you can refinish or paint. DIY projects like creating your own wall art or pressing flowers can add a unique, personal touch that mass-produced items can't replicate. And remember, cultivating a truly cozy and cottagecore space is an ongoing journey – it evolves with you and your finds! Happy decorating!
