Eyebrow Blindness Trend! 🫣

It's that phenomenon where you stare at your own brows every single day, and you just don't notice when they've gone a bit… off. You might think they're perfectly fine, but then you see an old photo and have a total 'jump scare!' I know I did! My journey through eyebrow blindness began with the super thin brows that were popular in the late 90s and early 2000s. I meticulously plucked them into barely-there lines, convinced they were chic. Looking back now at those pictures, I just wonder, 'WHAT is this?!?' It’s so easy to get caught up in a trend without realizing it might not suit your face or even look good in general. Then came the era of 'go thicker they said... it will look much better they said!' Around 2016, suddenly everyone wanted big, bold, almost block-like brows. I, too, fell victim to this. I started filling them in so heavily, thinking I was achieving that coveted full look, but really, they just looked painted on and overpowering. They were 'thick bushy eyebrows' in the worst way, not the natural, fluffy kind we love today. It was another phase of eyebrow blindness where I simply couldn't see that they were too dark and too defined for my features. So, how do you know if you might be experiencing eyebrow blindness yourself? A good trick is to ask a trusted friend for an honest opinion, or even better, take a selfie and flip it horizontally. Sometimes seeing your reflection differently can reveal things you’ve overlooked. Also, pay attention to the overall balance of your face. Do your brows dominate your features? Are they too light or too dark? Are they uneven? My personal turning point was when I decided to embrace a 'my natural brow' approach. I stopped over-plucking and over-filling. I let them grow out (within reason!), and instead of forcing a shape, I learned to enhance what I already had. This often means using a light hand with a brow pencil or powder to fill in sparse areas, and then brushing them up with a tinted gel for definition and hold. For those worried about 'ugly eyebrows' or even an 'unibrow,' remember that grooming is key. A little bit of shaping can make a huge difference without going overboard. Even if you have 'thin brows on a round face,' focusing on a slightly straighter arch can flatter your features without making them look too harsh. Achieving beautiful, natural eyebrows isn't about following every trend, but about understanding your own face and enhancing your unique features. It’s about stepping out of that 'eyebrow blindness' and seeing your brows with fresh eyes! I'm so glad I finally woke up to how much better a natural brow looks on me. It truly makes a difference!
