you NEED these apps for house hunting in australia

when i first moved to australia, finding a place to live was a full-time job on its own. i cried multiple times from the stress 😭

between inspections, applications, and endless scrolling, i quickly realised the right apps make the process so much easier. so here are my go-to house hunting platforms that helped me most ✨

oh and ONE MORE TIP: i found it best to use a mix of these apps and groups rather than relying on just one. different agents and landlords prefer different platforms, so casting a wide net gives you the best chance of finding a place you love.

... Read moreWhen I first started my search for a rental in Australia, I quickly found out that relying on a single app just wasn't enough. Different agents and landlords prefer different platforms, so using a variety of apps and online groups gave me access to more listings. For example, Domain impressed me with its clean interface and easy filters for suburbs, pricing, and property types. It made browsing effortless and helped me find my second rental quickly. On the other hand, TenantApp wasn’t the prettiest, but it offered useful features like direct applications and saving your info for next time, which made paperwork a breeze. Realestate.com.au is definitely the most popular platform here, often with the most listings, although I sometimes had trouble with their inspection sign-up showing up to the agents. To get around this, I would browse on realestate.com.au but register inspections through other apps. Apart from apps, Facebook groups like Fairy Floss are a hidden gem. This group has less scam activity and is great for taking over leases or finding housemates, saving you the hassle of applying from scratch. Flatmates is another platform focused on shared housing. Although some features require a paid membership, that filter made the profiles more reliable, and I found someone to take over my lease through them. My advice: mixing these tools and staying flexible made my search smoother and less stressful. Try combining apps and groups to maximize your chances of landing a rental you love.
