japan has a SLOWPOKE PARK?! hidden gem near osaka

Nobody warned me that Japan has a Slowpoke park 😭🩷

We travelled to Kagawa, Japan’s smallest prefecture, to visit Slowpoke Park, a children’s playground packed with a giant Slowpoke, photo ops and Pokémon-themed surprises.

Definitely an off the beaten track hidden gem in Japan!

If you’re a Pokémon fan visiting Japan, save this for your itinerary!

What stood out most was that it’s completely free to enter and even offers free parking, which is a huge bonus for travelers. The park is sprinkled with Slowpoke figures everywhere—from large statues you can hug to smaller decorations that bring a playful Pokémon vibe throughout the space. One quirky highlight I noticed is the special Slowpoke manhole cover, a detail that shows how much local pride and creativity have gone into making this park unique. What I found really refreshing about Slowpoke Park was its peaceful atmosphere. Unlike the busier tourist spots, it’s quiet and serene, making it a perfect stop if you want to escape the crowds while still enjoying a fun, thematic experience. Whether you’re a Pokémon enthusiast or just looking for something unusual to do in Kagawa, this park offers something special. The location is easy to find but feels like a well-kept secret, ideal for off-the-beaten-path exploration. If you plan to visit, I suggest timing your trip on a weekday to fully enjoy the calm surroundings. Bringing a camera is a must because the giant Slowpoke statues and picturesque spots give you plenty of chances to snap memorable photos. Personally, I felt like I was stepping into a small world inspired by Pokémon, which added a nostalgic touch to my Japanese adventure. Definitely a must-add to your itinerary if you’re traveling near Osaka and want to discover hidden gems beyond the usual sights.
