... Read moreYou know that feeling when you've had a really long day, and all you want to do is collapse on the couch? Imagine being a guardian angel, but your 'day' is protecting *me*! I often wonder if mine just sighs dramatically from above, shaking their head at my latest escapades.
I recently saw this incredibly humorous image – a statue of a guardian angel looking utterly fed up, with text bubbles in Spanish essentially asking, 'Why do I even bother? Look, she's off to do another stupid thing!' It perfectly captured my relationship with my own divine protector. It’s not that I’m constantly in grave danger, but rather that I seem to have a knack for getting into comical scrapes or making questionable decisions that require a celestial intervention.
Like that one time I confidently walked into the wrong office for an important meeting, or the morning I tried to make coffee without putting the mug under the spout. Or, let’s be honest, the countless times I've walked into a room and instantly forgotten why I went there. I can almost hear my guardian angel muttering, 'Seriously, again with the memory loss?' These aren't life-threatening, but they certainly keep an angel on their toes, constantly nudging me back onto the right path or subtly preventing minor disasters.
Sometimes I wonder what their 'shift' report looks like. 'Today, Human almost tripped over their own feet four times before noon. Managed to save them from an embarrassing public tumble by making a sudden, gentle breeze redirect their attention. Later, Human almost bought five bags of chips they didn't need; intervened by making them realize they left their wallet at home.' It must be exhausting work, preventing me from doing all those 'stupid things' I seem so prone to.
It makes me think about all the subtle ways our guardian angels must be working behind the scenes. That sudden, inexplicable urge not to do something? Probably them. The feeling of being guided to the exact item you needed in a crowded store? Definitely them. I try to give my tired guardian angel a break sometimes. I take a moment to pause, to breathe, and to actually think before I act. It's my little way of saying, 'Hey, thanks for all you do, even when I make it hard.' Maybe they get to enjoy a moment of peace and quiet up there, knowing I'm (briefly) not creating any new challenges for them.
So, next time you narrowly avoid a mishap, or feel a strange premonition that steers you away from trouble, spare a thought for your exhausted guardian angel. They’re out there, doing their best, protecting us from ourselves and our own hilarious antics, one 'stupid thing' at a time. They truly are the unsung heroes of our everyday lives, deserving of all our appreciation, and maybe a very long, celestial nap.
