DailyReflection Post✨

HELLO LOVELY HOOMANS 🐮🥰 God was today a day for the books! Let me just tell you about it…

So just to preface for everyone, I work in healthcare and it’s a struggle as it is, okay? Okay 😮‍💨😪 I go to work today and we are already short staffed, so one of us were going to have a bigger assignment than the others (I don’t care either way, an assignment is an assignment at this point 🤷🏽‍♀️). So I start the night out with 8 patients, and that was okay, my team was heavy and so was everyone else’s’. My co-worker around 9 PM starts to text me about how they’re not feeling well and that they might have to leave, need I inform you they were the one who got a 12 patient assignment. Not saying anything but I think it might’ve played a role in everything.

In the meantime I continued to care for my patients and do what I needed to do, I have had this team for 3 days now so I knew them inside and out. Around 10 PM my charge nurse comes down and gathers us together and tells us that my co-worker is sick and going home. We were all like, okay. Charge tells us that someone will have to go take their patients and that everyone will have 12 patients now, whatever doesn’t matter to me one way or the other. Nobody voices up, literal crickets in the room 🖕🏼

Finally I speak up and agree to take on a completely new team, in the end, I got screwed but it is what it is.

Lesson for today: Even when it might be hard for you to take on the task no one else wants, just do it. It will leave you feeling rewarded and fulfilled in some way.

... Read moreWorking in healthcare often means facing unexpected challenges, especially when short-staffed. From my own experience, nights like these can test your resilience but also reveal a deeper sense of purpose. When a coworker suddenly leaves due to illness, the workload shifts dramatically, often without much discussion. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed or frustrated, but choosing to embrace the extra responsibility can turn a difficult situation into a meaningful one. Taking on a new team might seem daunting at first, especially with a full caseload, but over time, you develop a stronger connection with your patients and your colleagues. Knowing their needs and rhythms allows you to provide better care and manage your time more effectively. I've found that even on the toughest shifts, focusing on the impact you make helps maintain motivation and reduces burnout. Moreover, stepping up when others remain silent promotes a supportive team environment and sets a positive example. It fosters trust and can even lead to personal growth—both professionally and emotionally. If you’re in healthcare or a similar fast-paced, high-pressure field, remember that sometimes the hardest tasks bring the greatest rewards, not only for those you care for but also for yourself.
