Ashley Heatherington is one of my favorite creators and her daily devotional is amazing! It’s all about finding joy in the in-between stages. Finding joy in the valley in between your mountaintop moments. 🤍
Life is lived in the valley and if we forget to see the good in our lowest moments we can lose sight of what God has in store for us. These moments in the valley are forming us mentally, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. God knows what the big picture is and what He wants us to focus on before we move into our next phase in life.
Our next mountain may be full of really difficult steps we’ve never taken before but God prepares you for them in the valley so that you will reach the top without falling. ❤️
It’s always good to find joy in these moments of formation. Joy is not something we feel due to our circumstances, it’s an assurance of God’s presence. I have joy in the Lord because He loves me and I know I’m not alone. Happiness is situational, joy is rooted in God’s presence. 🌸
Psalm 16:11 “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.” 🙌🏻❤️🌸
... Read moreI remember feeling stuck, like I was just waiting for my 'next big thing' to happen. It's easy to get caught up in longing for the mountaintop moments, isn't it? But then I stumbled upon Ashley Hetherington's 'The Joy of the In-Between: 100 Devotions for Trusting God in Your Waiting Season,' and it completely shifted my perspective. I had seen it recommended by Rebekah Lyons, and her praise about 'Ashley's timely wisdom' really drew me in, promising that it would leave me feeling 'equipped and encouraged' to 'begin each day with joy.'
Before this devotional, I often felt like I had to power through the 'valley' periods, just enduring until things got better. But Ashley's insights helped me realize that these in-between stages aren't just stopovers; they're fertile ground for growth and deeper connection with God. She beautifully illustrates how God uses these times to prune us, strengthen us, and prepare us for what's ahead. It’s not about pretending everything is perfect, but about actively seeking God’s presence and purpose in the mundane, the challenging, and the uncertain.
One of the biggest takeaways for me has been understanding that joy isn't a fleeting emotion tied to circumstances, like happiness often is. Instead, it's a deep-seated assurance that comes from knowing God is with me, always. This devotional helps me anchor myself in that truth daily. Each of the 100 devotions offers such practical wisdom, often paired with scripture, that gently guides you to reflect on where you are and how God is working. For instance, Ashley often encourages simple practices like gratitude journaling for the small blessings in the 'valley,' or intentionally pausing to acknowledge God's faithfulness even when answers aren't clear.
It truly does leave you feeling 'equipped and encouraged' to face whatever the day brings. I've found myself approaching challenges with a newfound peace, knowing that God is intimately involved in every detail of my life, even during the 'waiting season.' It’s a wonderful resource for anyone who feels like they're in a holding pattern, looking for spiritual nourishment that speaks directly to the heart of their current experience. If you’re searching for a way to cultivate genuine joy, not just conditional happiness, and to trust God more deeply during your less-than-ideal moments, I highly recommend diving into this. It's more than just a book; it's a daily invitation to embrace God's presence and find joy right where you are.
