high protein energy ball recipe

**The Base: 2c Old Fashioned Oats, 1/4c Chia Seeds, 1/4c Flax Seeds, & 1/4c Sunflower Seeds - consider adding sesame or hemp seeds!

Old-fashioned oats are a nutrient dense whole grain rich in fiber. They're packed with B vitamins, zinc, iron, and manganese - a vitamin that aids growth, development, and metabolism. They're known to lower cholesterol and regulate blood sugar levels (but maybe not with all the added sugar of this recipe 🤭).

Seeds are also high in fiber, antioxidants, healthy fats, and contain natural prebiotics aiding in digestive health. Antioxidants promote skin health and reduce wrinkles. They contain calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus to keep your bones strong; zinc, copper, and B6 which provide a boost for your immune system and a boost to your energy levels; magnesium which can help relax muscles, reduce stress, and aid in sleep quality; and omega fatty acids that reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, and moisturize your skin.

**The Filler: 1/8c Crushed Cashews, 1/4c Almond Butter, & 1/2c Peanut Butter - consider adding pistachios or other nuts!

Nuts share a lot of health benefits with seeds and are a great source of plant protein!

**The Fun Stuff: 1 spoonful Hazelnut Spread, 3T Manuka Honey, 1/4c Chocolate Chips, & 3T Maple Syrup

These are the ingredients that make my daughter call this healthy snack a "cookie", but believe it or not, they also have many health benefits!!

Like seeds and the prior mentioned nuts, hazelnuts are full of nutritional value that is translated into gut, brain, heart, bone, and skin health. They also contain zinc and folate which can aid in fertility.

Manuka honey is dense in antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, improves digestion, boosts the immune system, boosts libido, reduces allergy symptoms, provides energy, improves oral health, and can even shrink cancerous tumors!

It feels repetitive, but maple syrup also has antioxidants, regulates cholesterol levels, and is high in minerals. It is healthier than most other sweeteners in moderation.

Even chocolate also contains flavonals which act as antioxidants, improve blood vessel function, lower blood pressure, enhance blood flow to the brain, and improve memory. Like many of the previous ingredients chocolate contains iron, copper, magnesium, and fiber. It also improves mood by triggering serotonin release and is being researched for its anti inflammatory and anti cancer properties. The darker the chocolate is, the more beneficial it will be.
