Lemon Drop

I've been working with crystals for a while now, and Aragonite, especially the yellow variety, holds a special place in my heart. When I first encountered it, I was captivated by its warm hue and the gentle energy it seemed to emanate. But what exactly is Aragonite, beyond the beautiful yellow pieces like the one I used in my 'Lemon Drop' design? Aragonite is a carbonate mineral, just like calcite, but it has a different crystal structure. This makes it a polymorph of calcite – same chemical composition (calcium carbonate, CaCO₃) but different atomic arrangement. You can often find it forming in sedimentary environments, hot springs, and even in mollusk shells and coral. It's fascinating how nature creates such diverse forms from the same basic ingredients! While my 'Lemon Drop' piece highlights Yellow Aragonite, Aragonite actually comes in a variety of colors. You might see it in white, blue, green, brown, and even colorless forms. Each color can have slightly different energetic associations, but the core properties often remain. For instance, 'Sputnik Aragonite' – named for its resemblance to the satellite – forms radial clusters that are truly mesmerizing. It's often found in Spain, giving it a rich history. Beyond its beauty in jewelry and its metaphysical reputation for boosting confidence and compassion, Aragonite also has practical applications. It's sometimes used in aquariums to help stabilize pH levels because of its calcium carbonate content. It's also utilized in the production of cement and in certain industrial processes. It just goes to show how versatile minerals can be! Caring for Aragonite is important to maintain its beauty and integrity. It's a relatively soft stone, rating around 3.5-4 on the Mohs scale, so it can be scratched easily. I always recommend keeping it away from harder stones and abrasive cleaners. A gentle wipe with a soft, damp cloth is usually all it needs. And because it's a carbonate, it can be sensitive to acids, so avoid acidic solutions. Taking good care of your crystals ensures they continue to bring joy and beauty for years to come. I love learning new things about each stone I work with!
