Michelin-Recommended Korean BBQ in Seoul… Worth the Wait? 🇰🇷
Our Korean friend recommended Samwon Garden, and after dining here, we can see why. The restaurant is featured in the Michelin Guide and has been a Seoul institution since 1976, renowned for its premium Hanwoo beef and refined Korean BBQ experience.
⚠️ First tip: Make a reservation! We didn't, and ended up waiting about 30 minutes for a table.
The restaurant is incredibly popular with both locals and visitors, so booking ahead is definitely the way to go.
The restaurant itself is huge, blending a traditional Korean hanok-inspired exterior with a modern dining space inside. It feels elegant yet welcoming, making it perfect for celebrations or if you're looking to treat yourself to premium Korean BBQ.

📍 Samwon Garden Seoul
835 Eonju-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea
From my personal experience visiting Samwon Garden, one thing that stood out was the impeccable service and attention to detail. The staff didn’t just bring out the meat; they expertly grilled each cut right at our table, ensuring perfect doneness and maximizing flavor. The quality of the Hanwoo beef was truly exceptional, with rich marbling that made every bite tender and juicy. Another highlight was the generous selection of banchan, or Korean side dishes, which complemented the BBQ perfectly. The variety ranged from refreshing kimchi to savory pancakes and seasoned vegetables, providing a balanced and satisfying meal. Something unique about Samwon Garden is their charcoal grilling method, which imparts a subtle smoky aroma not easily replicated with gas grills. What I also appreciated was the restaurant’s ambiance—while the exterior pays tribute to traditional Korean hanok architecture, the interior feels modern and spacious, ideal for both casual meals and special celebrations. One tip I would add is to definitely make a reservation beforehand, as walk-ins faced a wait due to the restaurant’s popularity among both locals and tourists. Additionally, I tried the abalone porridge and seafood pancake appetizers, which were delightful starters adding a different texture and flavor profile to the meal. The quality of ingredients was evident in these dishes as well, maintaining the high standards associated with a Michelin-recommended restaurant. Overall, Samwon Garden provides more than just a Korean BBQ meal—it offers a complete cultural and culinary experience that’s worth the visit if you’re exploring Seoul’s food scene. Don’t forget to come hungry and allow the staff to take care of the grilling, so you can truly savor every moment and flavor.
