Animal Farm

The scariest part of Animal Farm is how reasonable everything sounds at first.

This was my first book of the year, and it’s less about animals and more about how easily people accept new rulers as long as the language feels familiar and comforting.

The revolution doesn’t fail because the pigs are obviously evil. It fails because everyone else gets tired, distracted, or convinced that things are “basically the same.” The rules don’t disappear—they get edited just enough to stay believable.

What stuck with me most is how quickly equality turns into hierarchy once someone claims they’re thinking on behalf of everyone else. By the time the animals notice, it’s already normal.

Maybe the real warning isn’t about corrupt leaders, but about how much convenience and silence help them win.

Do you think the animals were betrayed—or did they slowly agree to it?

It’s not dated. It’s rehearsed.
