Ekko really give up everything

I just finished re-watching Arcane, and one character who always sticks with me is Ekko. His journey is just so poignant, and honestly, the original post's sentiment – about him starting with 'everything' and ending with 'nothing' – really resonates with how I feel about his character arc. From what we see of his backstory, Ekko was a brilliant kid from Zaun, always tinkering and inventing. He had a tight-knit group of friends, a mentor in Benzo, and this incredible spark of genius that led him to create the Z-Drive. He represented hope and innocence in a harsh world. In my opinion, his early life, surrounded by his found family and fueled by his potential, truly felt like he 'had everything.' He was a prodigy, full of dreams and a clear moral compass, even as a child. He had the camaraderie with Vi and Powder (Jinx), and a secure place in their lives, even if it was tumultuous. But as Arcane progresses, his path diverges sharply, forcing him into roles he probably never envisioned. The 'death' associated with Ekko in queries isn't necessarily a literal one, but rather a profound loss of his former self and the life he could have had. We see him mature from an innocent inventor into the leader of the Firelights, a protector of Zaun's undercity youth. This transformation demands immense sacrifice. He has to take on the burden of leadership, constantly fighting for survival and a better future for his people. This isn't just about physical battles; it's about the emotional toll of carrying such responsibility. He loses his childhood innocence, replaced by a grim determination. The easy friendships of his youth are shattered, particularly his connection with Powder, who becomes Jinx. The bonds that once defined 'everything' for him are broken, leaving him with the heavy weight of what could have been. He can manipulate time, but he can't turn back the clock on these damaged relationships or the violence that has engulfed his home. In a way, watching him fight for what's left, constantly facing threats, feels like he's given up the very possibility of a peaceful, uncomplicated existence. So, while Ekko is still very much alive at the end of Arcane Season 1, my personal take is that he truly has 'nothing' left of the carefree, hopeful boy he once was. He has sacrificed his personal happiness and innocence for the sake of his community. The 'everything' he possessed — his friends, his innocence, his dreams of a simpler Zaun — has been stripped away, replaced by the heavy mantle of a leader and protector. It's a heartbreaking yet incredibly compelling aspect of his character, making him one of the most tragic heroes in the series.
