Beginner in stock market

Hey , I have zero knowledge in stock market, but i want to learn. I'm trying to invest long term and short term. Ik a decent amount about investing, stocks, dividends, s&p 500. But I’m new and just started using acorn not too long ago. But I’m adventuring out into other brokerage bc I’m using acorn for passive investing not worrying about it just spending certain amount of money every month then forgetting about it. But now I’m also using the app moomoo and idk what stocks I should buy.

Plz suggest me few good youtube video links and books , or any other source where I can learn.

... Read moreIt's totally normal to feel a bit lost when you're just starting out in the stock market! I remember feeling overwhelmed by all the jargon and choices. Since you're looking for resources, I wanted to share some insights that really helped me, especially when trying to understand what to actually buy beyond just passive investing apps like Acorn. One of the first things that clicked for me was understanding different types of investments. It's not just 'stocks' – there are so many variations! For instance, you mentioned S&P 500, which is great, but have you looked into ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds)? They're like baskets of stocks or other assets, giving you diversification instantly. The image you shared with different types like 'Large Company Stocks,' 'Small Company Stocks,' 'International Company Stocks,' and 'Emerging Market Stocks' is a fantastic starting point. ETFs are often built around these categories, offering exposure to various market segments. For example, an S&P 500 ETF would track large U.S. companies. You can also find ETFs that focus on specific sectors or even bond markets, like '1-5 Year Corporate' bonds, providing a way to invest in debt securities. Each type has its own risk and return profile, so understanding them helps you build a balanced portfolio. When it comes to picking individual stocks or even understanding the market, it's not always about 'reading stock charts' in a super technical way, especially for long-term investors. What's more important, in my opinion, is understanding the business behind the stock. Think about what the company does, its financial health, its competitive advantages, and its future prospects. For beginners, focusing on strong, established companies that you understand can be a great first step. For learning resources, since you asked for YouTube and books: YouTube: I found channels like 'Graham Stephan' and 'The Plain Bagel' really helpful for breaking down complex topics into easy-to-digest videos. They cover everything from basic investing principles to understanding dividends and market news. Books: 'The Intelligent Investor' by Benjamin Graham (a classic, a bit dense but fundamental), and 'A Random Walk Down Wall Street' by Burton Malkiel are often recommended for gaining a solid foundation. If you're looking for something more focused on long-term philosophy and behavior, authors like Morgan Housel (though not specifically about 'reading stock charts' in a technical sense, his books like 'The Psychology of Money' offer invaluable wisdom on investor behavior and long-term thinking) or Peter Lynch are fantastic for gaining perspective on how successful investors approach the market. Remember, investing is a marathon, not a sprint. Start small, keep learning, and only invest what you can afford to lose. Good luck on your journey!
