Back Spin
This spin is so difficult to me
Any tips to get a better spin (yes I know it’s on an outside edge I feel like I am doing that but any tips to feel more comfortable in it?)
Mastering the back spin on ice can be quite challenging, especially when trying to maintain balance and control on the outside edge. From my experience, developing a strong back spin starts with body alignment and edge pressure. Ensuring that your weight is properly centered over your skating foot helps maintain your balance through the spin. Practice is key, so start by breaking down the spin into parts, focusing on getting comfortable gliding on the outside edge before attempting to spin. Use slow rotation drills, focusing on controlling your core and keeping your head steady to maintain your axis. Another tip is to engage your arms and shoulders. Position your arms close to your body and gradually pull them in to increase rotation speed. Remember, the sensation of being on the outside edge can feel unstable initially, but with repeated practice, your muscles will adapt, and your comfort level will improve. Additionally, the quality of your skates plays a role in how well you can control spins. Sharp, well-maintained blades give better grip on the ice edge, making those spins more controlled and confident. Lastly, watching videos of skilled figure skaters perform back spins can provide visual cues on posture and positioning techniques. It helps to focus on how they enter the spin, manage their edge, and maintain balance throughout. Keep practicing consistently, be patient with yourself, and slowly you'll find that back spins become more natural and enjoyable in your ice skating sessions.
