GOD HAS NOT CALLED YOU TO FIT IN BUT TO STAND OUT.
If the crowd is running toward sin, standing still is not courage. Walking away is.
The world will pressure you to fit in. It will make rebellion look normal, compromise look harmless, lust look entertaining, drunkenness look fashionable, gambling look exciting, greed look ambitious, pride look powerful, and the love of money look successful.
But Scripture does not tell you to follow the crowd.
“Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil.”
Exodus 23:2, kjv
Brutal truth: A crowd can make sin popular, but popularity never makes sin righteous. If everyone is doing it, that does not make it right. It only means more people are wrong together.
“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”
1 Corinthians 15:33, kjv
Brutal truth: You can keep telling yourself that you are strong enough to handle bad influences, but if you keep feeding your mind with corruption, eventually what you tolerate will begin to shape you.
You do not become clean by standing comfortably among dirty things.
“Abstain from all appearance of evil.”
1 Thessalonians 5:22, kjv
Brutal truth: If you constantly place yourself beside temptation, do not be surprised when temptation stops looking dangerous. Familiarity can make poison look like water.
LUST will tell you to satisfy every desire.
DRUGS will tell you that you need them to escape reality.
ALCOHOL will tell you that losing control is entertainment.
CIGARETTES will tell you that addiction is just a habit.
GAMBLING will tell you that one more chance will make you rich.
GREED will tell you that what you have is never enough.
PRIDE will tell you that you are above correction.
LOVERS OF MONEY will tell you that success is measured by what you possess.
But sin does not care about your future. It only cares about your surrender.
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.”
1 John 2:15, kjv
Brutal truth: The world does not need to drag you into darkness if it can simply convince you that darkness is normal.
And this is where many people fail.
They do not fall because somebody forced them.
They fall because they desperately wanted to belong.
“For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.”
John 12:43, kjv
Brutal truth: Some people would rather be accepted by a crowd headed in the wrong direction than rejected for standing on the right side.
That is not strength.
That is slavery to approval.
“Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
Matthew 6:24, kjv
Brutal truth: You cannot make money your master and still pretend that God is your highest priority. When money controls your decisions, your desires, your values, and your conscience, it is no longer merely something you possess. It has begun to possess you.
And pride is just as deadly to your character.
“Only by pride cometh contention.”
Proverbs 13:10, kjv
Brutal truth: Pride does not make you bigger. It makes you too blind to see how small you have become.
A proud person hates correction because correction attacks the image they created of themselves.
“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”
Proverbs 16:18, kjv
Brutal truth: Pride always thinks it is standing above everyone else until the day it discovers that the ground beneath it has disappeared.
So stop asking:
“How can I fit in?”
Ask:
“What am I fitting into?”
Because you can fit perfectly into a crowd and still be completely wrong.
“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 6:17, kjv
Brutal truth: Sometimes standing out means being the only one who refuses.
The only one who walks away.
The only one who says no.
The only one who refuses the drink.
The only one who refuses the cigarette.
The only one who rejects the drugs.
The only one who walks away from lust.
The only one who refuses the gambling table.
The only one who refuses to worship money.
The only one who admits correction.
The only one who chooses character over popularity.
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”
Ephesians 5:11, kjv
Brutal truth: You were not created to become another copy of a corrupted crowd. You were called to have enough courage to stand when everybody else is sitting, enough conviction to say no when everybody else says yes, and enough wisdom to walk away when everybody else is running toward destruction.
Do not be proud that you fit in.
Be courageous enough to stand out.
Because sometimes the clearest evidence of conviction is simply this: everybody else is going that way, and you refuse to follow.
