Stages of relationship (Before, During, After)

-Before a relationship, I was really happy and less anxious with myself. But when I was in a relationship it went downhill which was hard for me because I didn’t know what to do during the relationship and it was toxic. I got out of the relationship because my friends were worried for me and didn’t like the guy that I was dating. After the relationship, he was starting rumors about me and shit, but over time I started to glow up and he didn’t 🤷‍♀️

... Read moreIt's so interesting how many of us search for 'relationship stages,' hoping to find a clear map for love. My own journey through 'before, during, and after' a relationship was anything but a smooth map – it was more like a rollercoaster, especially during the 'during relationship' part. When you look up '3 stages of love' or 'phases of relationship,' you often see things like infatuation, reality, and commitment. But what happens when your 'during relationship' phase is steeped in toxicity, and you feel yourself changing for the worse, like I did? Before I entered that relationship, I truly felt like the 'young woman with dark hair and a choker necklace smiles at the camera,' happy and relaxed. I was my own person, less anxious, just enjoying life. But once I was in it, things shifted. The 'during relationship' phase for me wasn't about growing together; it was about shrinking myself. I started to lose that carefree spirit, feeling that constant anxiety many experience in unhealthy dynamics. It's tough when you're in the thick of it, feeling like the 'young woman with her hair pulled back and earbuds in, pouts at the camera,' confused and unsure of what to do. Friends often see it before you do, just like mine did. They worried, and their concern was a huge wake-up call, giving me the strength to finally exit what had become a truly toxic situation. The 'after relationship' stage is often presented as grieving, and yes, there is that. But for me, it was also about reclaiming myself. Initially, hearing rumors spread by my ex was hurtful and felt like another blow. It’s hard when someone tries to dim your light. But that 'young woman with dark hair and a cross necklace looks at the camera with a neutral expression' in the 'after relationship' picture wasn't neutral for long. That phase became my time to heal and focus on my own well-being. This is where the 'relationship healing process' really begins. I learned that healing isn't linear, but it's incredibly empowering. It meant rediscovering hobbies, strengthening friendships, and learning to set boundaries. It meant understanding what a healthy relationship truly looks like, not just what I experienced. If you're looking for 'phases of relationship' advice, remember that sometimes the most important phase is the one where you prioritize yourself. It's about recognizing red flags like constant criticism, manipulation, or feeling isolated from your support system. It's about understanding that 'before and after relationship' can mean transforming from someone lost to someone found. My 'glow-up' wasn't just physical; it was deeply internal. It was about rebuilding my self-esteem and recognizing my worth outside of anyone else's validation. So, while academic 'stages of relationships' are helpful, remember that personal experience adds another layer. If you're navigating your own 'before, during, or after' relationship journey, especially one that felt toxic, know that healing is possible. Embrace your support system, lean into self-care, and trust that you can find your own powerful glow-up too.
