Serving is such a great college job if youāre looking for quick easy money with short hours.
Iām a full time server and I pay alllllll my bills and then still have extra money left over.
Common misconceptions:
1. You make no moneyā
- this is not true as a server your base pay is
$2.13 an hour and you make all your money off tips unless you tip share than your base pay is higher
2. People donāt tip well
-Most people tip 20-30%
- there are tables that will stiff you but that happens and sometimes itās not about ur serving so donāt take it personal
šPros:
1. Stoopid easy money
2. get paid instantly (depends on where u work)
some places put ur tips on a pay card
3. You get to meet a lot of different people
4. Depending on where you work and ur tables you can make 150+ (this is based on my money)
4. THE COOKSSSS (some cooks are rude asf but my cooks are great
š¤Cons:
1. It can be a highly stressful job (itās not for the weak minded)
2. You can get easily overwhelmed
3. You can have bad tables who wonāt leave you anything (and thatās okay)
4. Slow days (u can leave with like $50 and been there all day)
5. Other serversss (ik this seems messy but some servers are jealous and will try to take your tables or sabotage you)
(I work with some people who arenāt good servers and they will get on to me for going above and beyond for my tables. The fact is WE get paid from our tips and we should be going above and beyond to make our tables happy.)

Working as a server can indeed be rewarding, especially for students or individuals seeking supplementary income. This job often allows for flexible hours, enabling balance with classes or other commitments. On busy nights, servers can earn a significant income, sometimes exceeding $150, thanks to tips. However, the nature of the restaurant industry means that earnings can fluctuate greatly based on various factors, such as the day of the week and customer flow. Additionally, the job teaches valuable skills such as time management and teamwork, which are advantageous in any career path. Servers often develop strong communication skills, learning to read customer needs and manage expectations, which are vital in all customer service roles. However, the psychological demands cannot be overlooked. Long shifts during peak hours can lead to burnout, and conflicts with colleagues may arise, especially in competitive environments. Additionally, adapting to different personalitiesāboth guest and staffārequires strong emotional intelligence. For those considering a serving job, it's helpful to read online reviews about specific restaurants and their environments, as work culture can vary widely. Engaging in forums like #serverlife and #servertips can also provide real-world insights and support from peers in the same line of work. Overall, while there are challenges in being a server, the benefits often make it a fulfilling opportunity.
