About to hit the big 4-0!
Hi, everyone I'm 39 and about to turn the big 40 next year in March. I know as us women get closer and beyond 40, our metabolisms tend to slow down. I've struggled for years to lose weight but never came close to my goal weight which is 125 (I'm 5'1 btw). Currently I weigh 206 after losing about 25 lbs. At my heaviest I weighed 231; I've had the help of Ozempic but my insurance is changing soon and I have one dose left plus I don't think my A1C is that high anymore which was the only reason my doctor prescribed to me in the first place. As of now I've been struggling really hard to get on a carnivore diet plus intermittent fasting but it's been a challenge especially since the holidays are here. My question though for all the ladies out there is how did y'all lose your weight and keep it off? All advice would be appreciated! The photo above is a most recent picture of me taken in October.
Approaching the age of 40 often brings metabolic changes that can make weight loss more challenging for many women. As metabolism slows, it becomes essential to adapt lifestyle and dietary habits to support continued progress. Intermittent fasting and low-carb diets like the carnivore diet have gained popularity, but results vary for each individual. Consistency and personalization are key when trying to lose weight and maintain it long-term. Incorporating regular physical activity can help offset metabolic slowdown by building muscle mass, which in turn boosts resting metabolism. Strength training combined with cardiovascular exercise can improve body composition and overall health. Beyond diet and exercise, focusing on sleep quality and stress management plays a critical role in weight management. Poor sleep and chronic stress can increase hunger hormones and cravings, making it harder to stick with healthy habits. Many women find success by tracking their progress, setting realistic goals, and seeking community support—for example, joining forums or groups for motivation and shared experiences. Consulting healthcare providers is also important, especially when using medications like Ozempic or managing conditions such as A1C levels. While diet plans like carnivore or intermittent fasting can be effective for some, listening to your body’s signals and making gradual sustainable changes often leads to better outcomes. The holidays and other life events can present challenges, but planning ahead with balanced meals and flexible routines helps maintain progress. Ultimately, every person’s weight loss journey is unique. Sharing experiences, tips, and encouragement within communities empowers women approaching 40 to overcome obstacles and maintain healthier lifestyles with confidence.
