Chinese scammers are said to be hiring Thai men to marry their Chinese wives so that their Chinese citizen children can have Thai citizenship.
According to the State Administration Department
The department revealed on Thursday that six people (one of them a county official from thonburi) were arrested in connection with fraudulent civil registration documents in Bangkok. a few days earlier, a similar fraud was being uncovered in nakhun ratchima, and the authorities were finding a similar fraud.
Writing on the department's Facebook page on Thursday, officials said they first discovered the act after the arrest of Chen Yun Lai in April 2024. The Chinese national was suspected of laundering about 70 billion baht for local call centres.
According to the department, the money was transferred through several cash accounts to a Chinese woman believed to be Mr. Chen's wife.
The woman had three children who were surprisingly Thai.

When Mr. Chen, now 54, was arrested in a luxury home in Bangkok, he was holding a five-year visa because he was holding a Privilege Card in Thailand. The card was issued by Thailand Privilege Card Co, which is under the supervision of the Tourism Authority in Thailand.
Further investigation found that a Thai man was hired to "marry" a woman to allow children to become Thai citizens.
Other Chinese men on the same network hired Thai men to register marriages with their Chinese wives for a similar purpose, officials found.
Investigators found at least 5 cases of such fraudulent marriage registration and access to Thai citizenship for Chinese children. Some private organizations said they had facilitated arrangements with the help of corrupt government officials.
The holders of Thai citizenship are entitled to property ownership, to do business and to travel to Thailand conveniently.
"They can be used as nominees to launder money, hold assets for others, expand criminal networks across the country and pose a serious threat to national order and security," the department said in its Facebook post.
In addition to the Thonburi officer mentioned earlier, police arrested two Chinese nationals and three Thai men who had been hired for sham marriages on Wednesday. The department said officers were now looking for other offenders./กรุงเทพมหานคร
