My horse opinions 🫶🤍
In the world of equestrianism, opinions about horse care and training can vary widely. Many horse owners have their personal beliefs shaped by experience and interaction with their horses. One often overlooked concept is that not all horses require a bit for effective communication. Horses can respond to various types of cues beyond traditional means, emphasizing the importance of understanding individual horse behavior and preferences. Moreover, developing a bond with your horse requires mutual respect. It is crucial for equestrians to recognize that bad behavior does not always indicate pain; often, it can stem from fear or misunderstanding. Common misconceptions about horse training, such as the effectiveness of harsh methods like smacking, can do more harm than good. Instead, positive reinforcement strategies build trust and open communication. The debate around training methods extends to the choice of saddles as well. Riding in a lightweight western saddle can be seen as non-abusive when approached correctly, and discussions around the so-called '20% rule' can help to clarify how much strain is acceptable during training sessions. Additionally, jumping without a saddle should be practiced with moderation, emphasizing safety and comfort for both horse and rider. By encouraging discussions about these topics, horse enthusiasts can work towards a more informed and empathetic approach to horsemanship.
