In reality, pain levels vary depending on tattoo placement and individual pain tolerance. Some areas of the body, like the forearm, can be more tolerable than places with thinner skin or more nerve endings. Another common misconception is that tattoo artists judge clients based on their tattoo choices. Most artists are focused on delivering art that their clients love, as long as it isn’t offensive or hurtful. It's essential to choose a design that resonates with you personally, rather than worrying about the artist’s opinion. Aftercare is also often shrouded in myth. Some believe that covering a healing tattoo all the time is necessary, but many artists recommend letting the tattoo breathe after initial healing. Keeping the ink moisturized with products like Aquaphor can prevent itching and keep your skin healthy during the healing process. Proper hydration before getting a tattoo is crucial too. Myths suggesting it doesn't matter can lead to more difficulties during the session. Ensure you're well-hydrated and have eaten appropriately beforehand. Lastly, while infection is a valid concern, it is often exaggerated. With proper care and hygiene, the risk of infection is minimal. Understanding these myths can empower individuals considering tattoos and help them approach their tattoo journey with confidence.

I always eat before I get a tattoo. My mom got a tattoo once without having anything beforehand and she almost passed out. Eat, your body will thank you later

got my first tattoo on my ribs and EVERYONE was telling me “oh that’s gonna hurt so bad” but really it didn’t hurt at all. if anything it was just weird sensory wise (i’m autistic) because i could feel like my whole ribs vibrating. but it didn’t hurt one bit. and as for the itching, i don’t remember it itching one bit. i also did do what you’re supposed to at all. i did eat the day of, i went swimming at a disney hotel pool like 2 or 3 days after, i only kept the clear thing on for like a day, and was in the sun a lot. nothing happened, but i would not recommend doing that at all. i got lucky 😭
