I’m a cheap mom šŸ’—

ā€œExcuse me ma’m you can’t do thatā€

Uhm excuse you, yes I can!

You probably know from my other posts I’m a mommy of five. I’m blessed because we have everything we need. But I’m technically unemployed, I’m a stay at home mom. My husband provides for us the best he can but he just has an average job. We have our home and cars and food, so we are doing good! But are you going to see me buying anything full price anytime soon? Nope.

I’m short! I’m only 5ft 4in and am fairly petite. So I can pretty easily fit in children’s clothing. I actually first noticed this when I took my daughters back to school shopping a few years ago. I’ve really been shopping there ever since. It’s less expensive and for me it’s a perfect fit. My friend couldn’t believe it when she saw my daughters and I in matching clothes. I explained everything to her. She is a few sizes bigger than I am so she thought she had no chance to do the same. Well she was wrong! They have all the way up to size 16 in the children’s section at kohls. Some people think I’m crazy for doing this, would you do this?

... Read moreOkay, so you know my secret about shopping in the kids' section for myself – it's a huge money-saver! But being a mom of five, that's just one trick in my frugal playbook. I've learned that truly being a 'frugal mom' isn't just about one hack; it's a whole lifestyle of smart choices, especially when it comes to keeping our family well-dressed and well-fed without breaking the bank. Beyond just finding clothes for myself in the kids' section, I've become a pro at utilizing second-hand online resale platforms for the whole family. Think about it – kids grow so fast! Why pay full price for clothes they'll wear for a few months? I regularly check apps and websites for gently used clothing for my little ones, and even for myself. It’s amazing what you can find! Sometimes, a little alteration (yes, I often get my clothes altered if they need a perfect tweak!) can make a second-hand gem look brand new. It’s a win-win: good for the planet and good for my wallet. This strategy extends to toys and books too; I always check resale sites before buying new, and our kids rarely miss out because the quality is often fantastic. And it's not just clothes! Frugal organization is absolutely key to managing a busy household of five. For instance, meal planning has transformed our grocery budget. I sit down once a week, plan out all our dinners, and make a precise shopping list. This avoids impulse buys and wasted food. Not only does it save money, but it also saves time during the week when things get hectic. I also keep an eye out for loyalty programs at our favorite stores; those points and discounts really add up over time, especially for household essentials or things like baby care items, if you have little ones. You'd be surprised how much you can save just by being mindful of where and when you shop, and by utilizing those free rewards programs. Another big frugality strategy for us is DIY where possible. This could mean making our own cleaning supplies from common household ingredients, or tackling small home repairs ourselves instead of hiring someone. For kids' activities, instead of always paying for expensive outings, we explore free parks, libraries, or create fun crafts at home with repurposed materials. It's about getting creative and valuing experiences over constant spending. As a stay-at-home mom, every dollar I save means more for our family's future, and these strategies genuinely help us live comfortably without constantly feeling the pinch. It’s all about smart choices and making the most of what you have!

$29.99 is expensive to me. Lol. Honestly unless it’s brand name and 70 % + off I won’t pay more than $10/ pair of pants.
