TANNING 101 (for pale girlies) 🤎🥂

🚨DISCLAIMER: Spending time in the sun can be damaging for your skin. I am not telling anyone what to do with their body, just sharing what worked for me!! Everyone’s body is different!

So as a pale girl, I’ve almost never even had a tan line in my life. It SUCKS because I loveeee being tan. My goal this summer was to achieve a natural tan, and I think I found a routine to do just that! I have seriously tried almost EVERYTHING from taking supplements to burning the crap out of my skin (NOT GOOD) so it turns tan. So here’s the routine/products that have worked for me!!

☀️USE SUNSCREEN! You can still tan through SPF!! But if you don’t and get burned, you’ll have to stay out of the sun until it heals (not ideal). I love Sumbum, I feel like it works so well. Other brands I have found I still burn, even with SPF 30 or higher!

🤎GET SOME GOOD TANNING LOTION/OIL! Again I love Sunbum, especially since it has SPF in it! Make sure it’s for OUTDOOR tanning and not for a tanning bed! (I tried it and turned out like a lobster!)

💦STAY HYDRATED! This sounds dumb but it’s more important than you think. I was drinking water super well for like a week straight and as soon as I stopped for a day or 2, my skin started peeling!!

📖KEEP BUSY! I usually do 30 min on front, 30 minutes on back and repeat twice! If you’re and ADHD girly like me, you have to keep yourself busy or else just laying there for 2 hours will be torture!

🌿IMMEDIATELY SHOWER AND MOISTURIZE! Get an after sun lotion this makes all the difference! Shower right away and use the lotion to lock in your tan. If you feel like you got a little red, use some aloe and shower in cold water to stop your skin from burning further!

HAPPY TANNING!!🫶🏼#summerbod #tan #tanning #tanningroutine #tanningproducts #summer #sunscreenreview

... Read moreGetting that perfect golden glow when you have fair skin can feel like a mission impossible, right? I totally get it. For years, my sunbathing attempts ended in either a lobster-red burn or barely any color at all. But through trial and error, I’ve refined my approach to sun exposure, ensuring I actually get a tan while keeping my skin happy and healthy. First off, let’s talk about the tanning schedule for fair skin. The 30 minutes front, 30 minutes back, repeated twice, as mentioned in the original routine, is a fantastic starting point. The key for us pale girlies is to never push it. Your skin will tell you when it's had enough. If you start feeling hot or see even a hint of pink, it’s time to cover up or head indoors. Consistency over intensity is my mantra. Instead of trying to get a deep tan in one session, aim for shorter, more frequent exposures. I also find that avoiding the peak sun hours (usually 10 AM to 4 PM) significantly reduces the risk of burning, even with my SPF 50 on my face and tattoos. Building up your tan slowly, over several days or weeks, leads to a much more natural-looking and longer-lasting glow, rather than a quick, risky burn that just peels away. Now, regarding what tanning oil does to pale skin – this is crucial. My experience has shown that not all tanning oils are created equal, especially for those of us with fair complexions. While some can definitely help you achieve a deeper tan, the type of oil and whether it contains SPF makes all the difference. I only use tanning products with SPF because it allows for a more controlled tanning process, preventing immediate burns and letting your melanin develop gradually. Oils that are purely accelerators without any sun protection are a huge no-go for pale skin, in my opinion, as they essentially amplify sun exposure without offering a safety net. Look for formulations that are moisturizing and contain nourishing ingredients, but always, always ensure they have a decent SPF rating. Sunbum is my go-to brand, and I’ve found it really works for me without turning me into a tomato. To ensure I’m always rocking that tanned pale skin look without the damage, I pay close attention to my post-sun routine. Immediately showering after sun exposure and then slathering on a good after-sun lotion is a game-changer. I personally love the CAREOne after-sun lotion and Hawaiian Tropic for that soothing, hydrating boost. Following up with a daily moisturizer, like evolution of smooth®, helps lock in moisture and significantly extends the life of my tan, preventing premature peeling. Hydration from the inside out is also vital; drinking plenty of water helps keep your skin glowy and supple, further reducing the chances of peeling. Finally, for those of us who need to stay busy while sunbathing, I've found that audiobooks, podcasts, or even listening to a good playlist make the time fly by. Just remember to periodically adjust your position to get an even tan and reapply your SPF, especially if you’ve been sweating or taken a dip. Achieving a beautiful tan with fair skin is absolutely possible, it just requires a little more planning and a lot more sun savvy!

Should you put sunscreen or tanning oil on first?
