i have tried so hard to keep being friends with her but she doesn’t get it, all of my friends have witnessed her talk crap bout me, and she talked crap abt my friends to me too. I tried talking to her less because everyday someone new would tell me she was talking crap abt me. so a few days ago there was this whole argument in the gc and then I didn’t side with her so she started texting me saying stuff like your toxic and a bad person I didn’t know what to say so I said how am I toxic hbu to everyone else. after saying she completely went nuts saying I never liked her and that I always made her feel bad and so I said “have you ever thought abt why I talk to you less than normal” and she replied by saying yes but I don’t know. idk if i should tell her that ik she talked shit abt me because last time I brought it up when she made a rude comment abt me she started playing the victim. I’m just sick and tired and I don’t have anyone to help me so I just thought maybe you guys can help me cuz idk what to do
Toxic friendships can be emotionally draining and confusing. It’s essential to identify the signs, like constant gossip or negative comments, as experienced in this situation. When faced with a friend who talks behind your back, it is crucial to maintain self-respect and set clear boundaries. In many cases, communication can help, but ensure it is a safe space for expressing feelings. If your friend reacts negatively, it’s a sign to assess the friendship’s value. Sometimes, it’s best to step back and prioritize your mental and emotional health over maintaining a relationship that causes distress. Consider engaging in self-reflection—why do you feel compelled to stay friends? Building supportive networks other than toxic friendships can help provide perspective and reassurance. Friendships should be uplifting, and if you consistently feel demeaned, it could be time to evolve your social circle. Seek advice from trusted friends or support groups, and don't hesitate to talk to a professional if the situation becomes overwhelming. Protecting your interests should always take precedence.
