My tumbling fit ๐
Top: Aerie
Bottoms: Nike
Finding the perfect tumbling outfit can honestly make or break your session โ I learned that the hard way! When I first started, I just grabbed whatever leggings and top I had, and let me tell you, wardrobe malfunctions or discomfort were not fun distractions. Thatโs why I love sharing my current favorite combo, but let's dive deeper into what makes an ideal tumbling outfit, beyond just my Aerie top and Nike bottoms. First off, comfort and flexibility are non-negotiable. Youโre twisting, flipping, and landing, so your clothes need to move with you, not against you. My Aerie top, for example, is incredibly soft and stretchy, allowing for full range of motion in my shoulders and arms. For bottoms, my Nike leggings offer that perfect balance of compression and stretch. Look for fabrics that are sweat-wicking to keep you dry and comfortable. Nobody wants to feel soggy mid-routine! When it comes to tops, a supportive sports bra is paramount. Even if you're layering a tank over it, the foundation needs to be solid. I've tried various brands, and while Aerie works great for me, others swear by Lululemon's energy bra or Athleta's conscious crop. It really depends on your body type and support needs. For layering, a fitted tank or a crop top ensures no excess fabric gets in the way, preventing snags or distractions during complex movements. For bottoms, leggings are a popular choice for their coverage and ability to stay put. High-waisted styles are a lifesaver for me, preventing any slippage or exposure during inversions. Nike is a classic for a reason, but brands like Under Armour, Gymshark, or even more budget-friendly options from Old Navy's active line can offer great performance. Some tumblers prefer shorts, especially for warmer weather, but make sure they have a good inner lining or are tight enough to avoid riding up. Don't forget about footwear! While not technically part of the 'clothing' outfit, grip and stability are crucial. Many tumblers go barefoot or wear specialized gymnastics shoes or cheer shoes with good grip and arch support. My personal preference depends on the surface I'm on, but a good pair of studio grip socks can also be amazing for floor work, offering both comfort and preventing slips. Finally, consider durability. Tumbling can be tough on clothes, so investing in good quality activewear means it will withstand countless washes and intense workouts. I always check the care labels and generally wash my activewear in cold water and air dry it to maintain its elasticity and fabric integrity, making sure my favorite pieces last longer. Finding your ideal tumbling outfit might take a little trial and error, but focusing on flexibility, breathability, support, and durability will set you up for success and help you feel confident in every move. Happy tumbling!
