The pros and cons of a summer pregnancy 🍋

PRO’s: What I loved about being pregnant in the summer, hands down number one reason is to not have to suck in my belly anymore! I got to eat as much as I wanted and didn’t have to worry about what I’d look like in a swimming suit, I’m pregnant! 💁🏼‍♀️

Everyone always looks better tan, so being pregnant, wearing cute summer dresses definitely made me look better. I would hate to layer up in the winter and look like a sumo wrestler 😆 so revealing my bump was a lot of fun!

I also love the idea of having the baby in the fall. Time to cozy up indoors with your newborn baby with a warm cup of coffee, leaves changing colors, all the vibes ☕️

Outdoor baby showers are always better than indoor! Summer time is the best time for that! See my previous post with my baby shower set up outside 👉🏻

I loved being able to swim a lot in the summer time, this helped relieve all the pregnancy aches and pains! And helped me stay active.

CON’s: obviously very hot outside, plus all the pregnancy hormones, it was exhausting at times! So now you’re drinking a ton of water which adds to all the swelling in the feet and ankles! There’s no going around it.

One thing I was really sad about was not participating in all the summer sports, like wake boarding, inner tuning, playing volleyball and spike ball. I just had to sit and watch 😫

With the warm weather you’re having to wear more open clothing so there’s no hiding your extra weight gain anymore! Plus you need to shave more often, and reaching 30+ weeks, you can imagine how difficult that becomes! 🙈

We would always stay out late in the summertime with friends, but being pregnant and so tired all the time, that just wasn’t the case anymore. You pretty much have to be the party pooper and call it a night at 8 pm 😞

Overall, pregnancy isn’t about you anymore, it’s all about the baby. So you need to do whatever it takes to keep that baby growing and healthy! What a toll it is on us women! But I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything 🥰

... Read moreOkay, so you've heard the good and the not-so-good about a summer pregnancy from my perspective. Let's dive a bit deeper into some practical tips and thoughts, because honestly, navigating those warmer months while growing a tiny human is a whole adventure! One query that popped up a lot was 'summer pregnancy essentials.' Beyond the obvious loose dresses, I found a few things were game-changers. Hydration, as mentioned, is crucial, especially with all the hormones and that 'always hot and out of breath' feeling. But it's not just about drinking water; think about electrolyte-rich drinks too! For managing the 'lots of swelling in the legs and feet,' comfortable, supportive sandals or even specific compression socks can make a huge difference. Don't underestimate a good, wide-brimmed hat and reef-safe sunscreen – your skin is more sensitive to the sun during pregnancy, which is definitely a summer concern. Speaking of staying cool, investing in a portable fan or even just a spray bottle with water became my best friend. Cold compresses on your pulse points or a cool bath/shower before bed can really help beat the heat and help with those restless nights. Elevating your feet whenever possible is also a must – gravity is not your friend when you're pregnant in summer! Another thing that came up was 'pregnancy and boats' or summer activities. It's tough when you 'can't do a lot of summer sports activities' you usually enjoy. I definitely missed out on some of my usual water fun. While wakeboarding and inner tubing are off-limits for safety, there are still ways to enjoy the water! Swimming, as I mentioned, was a lifesaver for aches and staying active. Gentle paddle boating or simply floating in a pool can be incredibly therapeutic. Always check with your doctor about any specific water activity, especially if you're further along, like '28 weeks pregnant' or '34 weeks pregnant,' when balance and mobility might be more challenging. On the social front, yes, the 'too tired to stay out late' struggle is real. It's okay to be the 'party pooper' sometimes! Your body is working overtime, creating life. Don't feel guilty about prioritizing rest and saying no to plans. Maybe suggest earlier, calmer get-togethers, or host friends at your place where you can relax on your own terms. Remember, this phase is temporary, and your friends will understand and support you. Finally, addressing some of those general 'cons of pregnancy,' like the 'can't hide your weight gain' and 'difficult to shave.' It's easy to feel self-conscious, but try to embrace your changing body! It's doing something incredible. For shaving, a long-handled razor or asking for help (partner, friend, professional waxing) can be a practical solution in those later stages when reaching becomes a true Olympic sport. Focus on what feels good for you and your baby's health. This journey, while demanding, is truly unique, and soon enough, you'll be snuggling your little one, making all those summer pregnancy challenges a distant, beautiful memory.
