Car Organization: Creating Car Essentials Kits

As a working mom who's always on the go, I tend to spend a lot of time in my car. Stocking it with a few essentials has helped so much in me being prepared for all the little emergencies and needs that come up on the way to school drop-off, running errands, and driving to kid activities.

I created these little car essentials kits using 5x7 plastic photo boxes. You can easily find packs of these on Amazon or in craft stores. Their size fits really well inside the middle console of your car as well as the glove compartment, and the latches keep the lids closed nice and tight.

You can store whatever you want in these, but generally my goal was to create mini kits of all the little essentials I might need while our family is on the go. A first aid kit is a given, and I've used the office supplies kit so many times! Kits for things like hand sanitizer, hair ties, bobby pins, nail clippers, etc. can also be useful.

What would you store in yours?

... Read moreLife as a working mom means my car often feels like a second home – a mobile command center for school runs, activities, and endless errands. I totally get the struggle of being caught unprepared, which is why I'm passionate about smart car organization. Beyond the basics, I've found that having specialized car essentials kits truly makes a difference. It's not just about tidiness; it's about peace of mind and being ready for anything! Let me share how I've further optimized my car with more specific kit ideas, drawing from my own experiences and what I've learned other busy women find essential. Think of it as elevating your "Car Essentials Kits" game! 1. The Ultimate First Aid & Wellness Kit: My initial kit was good, but I quickly realized the need for more depth. Now, my first aid kit is a true lifesaver. Beyond a variety of BAND-AID brand bandages (because kids always need them!), I always include pain relievers like Ibuprofen and Advil. For those unexpected allergic reactions or bug bites, a small tube of Benadryl and an ITCH RELIEF STICK are absolute must-haves. And let's not forget the digestive woes – a few ANTACID TUMS have saved many a car ride from discomfort. Don't forget antiseptic wipes, small gauze pads, and even a pair of mini tweezers for splinters. 2. The "Fresh, Clean Feel" Hygiene Kit: This one is crucial for maintaining a sense of freshness even after a chaotic day. My kit always has plenty of travel-size hand sanitizers and a pack of "Wet Wipes" (or Wet HOUT WipeRG, as I often call them in my head for quick grabs!). I also throw in lip balm, a small bottle of lotion, a mini deodorant, and a travel-size toothbrush and toothpaste. You never know when you'll need to freshen up before an unexpected meeting or after a messy snack attack in the back seat. This "Hygiene" kit helps us all feel a little more put-together. 3. On-the-Go Office Supplies & Productivity Kit: Even when I'm just running errands, I often find myself needing a pen or paper. My "Office Supplies" kit is surprisingly handy! It contains not just pens and a small notepad, but also a few paper clips, sticky notes, and even a compact stapler. I've used it for signing permission slips on the fly, jotting down grocery lists, or making quick notes during a phone call while parked. It's all about being able to handle those small administrative tasks without having to dig through my purse or dash into a store. 4. Quick Beauty Essentials: For those moments when you need a quick touch-up, this kit is gold. Hair ties and bobby pins are a given, but I also include a mini hairbrush, a compact mirror, and a small lip gloss or tinted balm. It's not for a full glam session, but for those times you need to look a little more presentable after a windy car ride or a quick dash from school pickup to another appointment. Sometimes, just feeling a little more put-together can boost your confidence on a busy day. 5. Snack & Hydration Station: While not strictly a "kit" in the photo box sense, I always have a designated spot for non-perishable snacks (think granola bars, fruit snacks, or crackers) and a couple of reusable water bottles. This prevents hanger meltdowns (from kids and adults alike!) and keeps everyone hydrated, especially during longer drives or unexpected delays. It's part of the overall "Organizi Whe" approach to car life. By building out these specialized kits, I've found that my car truly functions as an extension of my organized home. It saves time, reduces stress, and ensures I'm ready for almost anything that comes our way. What unique items have you found indispensable for your busy car life?
