Inversions During Pregnancy

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share these pics w you all today🥰 I’m a yogi and have been doing headstands for about 4+ years now, I’m high risk and this is one of the very few things I was cleared by my Dr to do! What are inversions exactly? ANY position where your heart is above your head! Downward dog and child’s pose are both inversions. What are benefits to doing inversions while pregnant?

🤰🏻Improved fetal positioning

Forward-leaning inversions can untwist ligaments in the lower uterus and cervix, which can help the baby settle into a better position. Kneeling after the inversion can also help align the uterus with the pelvis.

🤰🏻Reduced pain

Forward-leaning inversions can help relieve back, hip, or tailbone pain.

🤰🏻 Improved blood flow

Inversions can improve blood flow, which can deliver more oxygen-rich blood to the baby.

🤰🏻 Reduced swelling

Inversions like legs up the wall can help reduce swelling in the feet and ankles.

My best birth ever was my middle child, and I practiced a supported inversion like the last photo every day for the last few weeks of my pregnancy with her! My current baby has been (knock on wood) head down since 24 weeks! I was recently diagnosed with polyhydramnios and I’m really hoping I don’t have to stop doing my headstands, I do them first thing in the morning and they provide me w so much relief from some of my aches and pains, I have a whole yoga routine that gives me life 😩🙏🏽🙌🏼 wish me luck everyone! And if you’re pregnant, give the last pose a go! 🤗🥰🧘🏻‍♀️

... Read moreInversions, such as headstands and downward dogs, can play a crucial role in a pregnant woman's yoga routine. These positions not only promote improved fetal positioning but also alleviate common discomforts like back and hip pain. Specifically, forward-leaning inversions help in untwisting ligaments in the lower uterus, allowing the baby to settle correctly into position. Furthermore, these yoga poses are known to enhance blood circulation, ensuring that oxygen-rich blood reaches the baby more effectively. Pregnant individuals may also experience a reduction in swelling in their legs and feet when practicing inversions like 'legs up the wall.' It's important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new exercise during pregnancy, especially if classified as high-risk. Expecting mothers should listen to their bodies and modify poses to ensure safety and comfort. Incorporating inversions into a prenatal yoga routine might provide the physical and emotional benefits necessary for a healthier pregnancy experience.
