Sage Alternatives For Cleansing your Space

For anyone who doesn't like the smell of sage or those who cannot burn things!

Perhaps if you are in the broom closet, or simply don't have the money to spend on materials this is for you!

Personally I'm not a big fan of burning things. When I started my craft I was living with my parents and I had a hamster who's noses are very sensitive to smells, so I never really got into incense, herb bundles, or essential oils. Bells have typically been my go-to for cleansing because they're just so fun.

Sound Clearing 🔔

You can use sound to cleanse a space by using bells, the sharp ringing sound is said to be too 'pure' for negative energies to want to stick around. Supposedly once an area is cleansed the bell will sound clearer or sharper.

Herbal Sprays 🌿

If you still want to use herbs, but don't feel comfortable or can't burn them, you can put some herbs into a spray bottle with some water (moon water if you're fancy) give it a shake and spray around! Personally this one is a bit tedious for me because you're supposed to make sure the particles of water touch every area of space (it's the same with the smoke but smoke dissipates and spreads, water just falls...)

Incense 🔥

You would use this just like an herb bundle, making sure you get every corner and crevice. Personally I think they smell better than bundles and I have a better time keeping them lit than I do with bundles.

Juniper/Cedar bundles 🌲

If you really like the aesthetic of burning a bundle but think sage is stinky, here is another option. Cedar can be used just like sage but Cedar invites in a bit more positivity than the 'bleach' that sage can be.

Clapping 👏

If you are totally in the broom closet clap clearing may be your best friend. It's a form of sound clearing but I wanted to put it in its own category for those who have no access to materials at all. You simply clap the negative energy out, and like bells, when the energy is clear your claps supposedly sound clearer as well.

Singing 🎵

Personally I like to do this one while I cleanse using other methods but I have heard of people who will use music and voice to cleanse a space.

Remember! When cleansing a space by any method, make sure you leave a window or door open to chase the negativity out. If you choose to use a door please use the back door, don't want to accidentally ward off anything good coming into your home.

Please! If you want to use sage go for it! Just remember to use garden sage and not white sage!

Blessed Be!

... Read moreI absolutely love finding new ways to bring good vibes into my space, and while sage is popular, it's definitely not the only option! For those of us who prefer alternatives, or simply can't burn things – whether for scent sensitivity, living situations, or just personal preference – there are so many beautiful and effective methods out there. Let's dive a little deeper into making your cleansing rituals truly your own. Beyond Just Burning: Setting Your Intention Many Google searches mention a 'sage cleansing prayer,' and while my methods don't involve sage, the spirit of setting an intention is universal! Before you begin any cleansing, take a moment to center yourself. What energy do you want to release? What do you want to invite in? You can silently or verbally state your intentions, such as: "I release all stagnant and negative energy from this space. I invite in peace, joy, and positive vibrations." This powerful declaration elevates any method you choose, making it a sacred act, much like a prayer. Deeper Dive into No-Burn & Low-Odor Alternatives: 1. Herbal Sprays: Your Custom Cleansing Blend Beyond just water and herbs, you can truly customize your cleansing sprays. Consider adding a few drops of essential oils for an extra boost: lavender for calm, lemon for cheerful energy, rosemary for protection, or frankincense for spiritual purification. If you're using fresh herbs like rosemary or mint, let them steep in warm water until cool, then strain. And for that 'moon water' touch? Simply place a jar of water outside under the full moon overnight to infuse it with lunar energy – it adds a lovely, subtle charge. Remember to store your sprays in a cool, dark place and use them within a few weeks, especially if they contain fresh ingredients, to keep them potent and fresh. 2. Sound Clearing: The Vibrational Shift Sound Clearing is incredibly versatile. For bells, try different sizes and tones. A higher-pitched bell is wonderful for breaking up dense energy in smaller spaces, while a deeper chime can resonate through larger areas. Walk through your space, ringing the bell in corners, near doors, and in any areas that feel 'heavy.' With clapping, make sharp, intentional claps, moving from one end of the room to the other, feeling the energy shift. When it comes to singing or humming, the key is to use your own voice with intention. Any tune that brings you peace or feels energetically 'clean' can work wonders. Some people love chanting specific mantras, while others simply hum a soothing melody. 3. Incense Alternatives: Aromatic Cleansing If you still want the aromatic benefits without intense smoke, consider high-quality incense sticks made from natural resins like frankincense, myrrh, or copal, which often have a gentler scent than some herb bundles. Always ensure good ventilation. For an even lighter option, an essential oil diffuser with pure essential oils can offer continuous, subtle cleansing fragrances without any smoke at all. Juniper and Cedar are fantastic choices for bundles and even loose incense. Juniper is renowned for its protective and purifying qualities, while Cedar is wonderful for grounding and inviting positive, stable energy into your home. Each brings its own unique energetic signature, inviting you to connect with nature's wisdom. Ultimately, the best cleansing method is the one that resonates most deeply with you and fits seamlessly into your life. Experiment with these *Sound Clearing*, *Herbal Sprays*, *Incense*, *Juniper/Cedar Bundles*, *Clapping*, and Singing techniques. Trust your intuition, and remember to always open a window or back door to release that old energy! Happy cleansing, everyone! 🌿🔔✨
