Okay, let's talk about face shaving – or dermaplaning, as it's often called! For the longest time, I was hesitant to try it, worried about my hair growing back thicker or getting irritation. But after seeing so many amazing transformations, I decided to dive in, and honestly, it's been a game-changer for my skin! My main goal was just to get rid of that pesky peach fuzz, but I quickly discovered so many other benefits. First off, my skin feels unbelievably soft and smooth, almost like glass! It creates the perfect canvas for makeup, making foundation glide on flawlessly without any fuzz to cling to. Plus, I've noticed my serums and moisturizers absorb so much better afterwards. It's like I'm getting more out of my expensive skincare products, which is a huge win in my book. So, what do you need to get started with your own at-home dermaplaning routine? You definitely need a good dermaplaning tool or a specific face razor – please don't use a regular body razor! I also swear by a few key products to make the process super smooth and keep my skin happy. Before I even think about shaving, I make sure my face is freshly cleansed and completely dry. Some people prefer doing it on slightly damp skin with an oil, but I’ve found a dry shave gives me the best results. My go-to prep starts with a spritz of something gentle, sometimes even just an Evian facial spray to hydrate lightly without making my skin wet. Then, I make sure to apply a thin layer of a hydrating serum. While some people look for 'dermaplaning shaving cream,' I find that a good hyaluronic acid serum provides enough slip and moisture without clogging my razor or my pores. It creates a nice barrier and ensures the razor glides easily. When it comes to the actual shaving, I hold the skin taut with one hand and hold the razor at a 45-degree angle. I use short, gentle, downward strokes, being extra careful around my hairline, eyebrows (I typically pluck eyebrows separately, but if you have strays nearby, be cautious!), and chin. The key is light pressure – let the blade do the work. It's surprisingly satisfying to see all that dead skin and peach fuzz come off! After I'm done with the shaving part, my post-dermaplaning routine is crucial for soothing and nourishing my freshly exfoliated skin. I immediately follow up with more hydrating and reparative serums. I love layering a niacinamide serum to help with any redness and refine pores, followed by a super peptide serum for overall skin health and repair. If I have any specific concerns, I might use a targeted pore corrector on areas where I feel I need extra help. And before bed, especially if I've dermaplaned, I make sure to lock everything in with a rich, calming moisturizer. My current favorite is an indigo overnight repair cream. It's super soothing and helps my skin recover overnight, so I wake up with a radiant, baby-soft complexion. Don't forget sunscreen the next day – freshly dermaplaned skin is more susceptible to sun damage! I usually dermaplane about once every 2-3 weeks, depending on how quickly my peach fuzz grows back and how my skin is feeling. Consistency is key to maintaining those smooth skin benefits. Just remember to always use a fresh, sharp blade and never go over irritated skin. Happy dermaplaning!
