Too Hot 🥵 Today 🍋🍋
Hot days can be challenging not only for us but especially for our beloved dogs. As a dog lover, I've learned the importance of following some simple yet crucial 'rules' to keep them happy and healthy during extreme heat. One of the first things I noticed is how dogs rely heavily on having fur, as highlighted in the phrase "Always have fur." While it keeps them warm in cold weather, in summer it can trap heat. Regular grooming, including trimming or thinning your dog’s coat, can help them stay cooler without compromising their natural insulation. Rule number two for me has always been about hydration—making sure my dogs have constant access to fresh, cool water. Dehydration can sneak up on pets quickly when it’s hot outside. I also try to take walks during the early morning or late evening when the pavement isn’t scorching, to protect their paws and avoid heatstroke. I love using cooling mats and even sprinklers to create a playful yet cooling environment for my dogs. Recently, I started freezing treats to help them chill out. It’s fun and keeps them engaged while they cool down. Most importantly, I remember the mantra: "I have two rules"—never leave your dog unattended in a hot car and always listen to signs of overheating like heavy panting or lethargy. Watching for these signs can save your dog’s life. By following these personal tips and always putting your dog’s comfort first, hot days won’t feel so overwhelming for your furry companions. After all, their safety and happiness are what matters most to us dog lovers.
