Slime trackers
Hey everyone! I wanted to share my personal journey into the world of full-body tracking (FBT) in VRChat, especially with what many of us affectionately call 'slime trackers.' When someone asked me, 'Nice FBT, what trackers are you using?', I was so excited to tell them about my setup, and I figured it was time to put my thoughts down for anyone else curious! For me, the game-changer has been the Vive 3.0s. Yes, these are the 'slime trackers' I'm talking about! They’re technically the latest generation of SteamVR trackers, but in the VRChat community, we often use 'slime' to describe these smaller, more discreet FBT devices that really enhance our immersion. Gone are the days of just seeing my avatar's head and hands move – now, I can see my legs kick, my hips sway, and every little dance move translated perfectly into the virtual world. It’s absolutely transformative! What I love most about the Vive 3.0s is their precision and reliability. Setting them up was surprisingly straightforward. I usually attach three of them: one on each ankle and one on my hip. Some people use more for elbow or knee tracking, but for me, this setup provides fantastic full-body presence without feeling encumbered. The battery life is also incredible; I can easily get through a long VRChat session without worrying about them dying on me. Plus, they’re really lightweight, so after a few minutes, I barely notice they’re there. If you’re thinking about diving into FBT, especially with slime trackers like the Vive 3.0s, here are a few tips from my own experience: Base Station Placement is Key: Make sure your SteamVR base stations (whether 1.0 or 2.0) have a clear line of sight to your trackers. I put mine in opposite corners of my play space, high up, angled down. This minimizes occlusion and ensures smooth tracking. Calibration is Your Friend: Don't skip the calibration process in VRChat! Taking a few moments to properly calibrate your FBT will make a huge difference in how natural your avatar moves. There are plenty of great video guides online if you're new to it. Comfortable Straps: Invest in some good, comfortable straps for your trackers. The ones that come with them are okay, but third-party options can make a huge difference in long-term comfort and keeping them securely in place. Clear Play Space: Just like with any VR, ensure your physical play space is clear. You'll be moving your legs and body in ways you might not expect! Having Vive 3.0s as my slime trackers has elevated my VRChat experience tremendously. From impromptu dance-offs to just lounging around with friends, the added layer of immersion makes everything feel so much more real and engaging. If you’ve been on the fence, I highly recommend giving FBT a try. It’s truly a game-changer for anyone who wants to fully express themselves in VR. Happy tracking!
