How To Stop Procrastinating

We all procrastinate at some point, but if it starts getting in the way regularly then it’s a habit that you need to break. Here are some tips for how to stop the cycle and take control of your to do list!

1. Break It Down – Large tasks feel overwhelming, so split them into smaller, manageable steps. One step at a time is easier to tackle.

2. Use a Timer (Pomodoro Method) – Work for 25-50 minutes, then take a short break. Helps you stay focused without burning out.

3. Start with Just 5 Minutes – Commit to working on something for five minutes. Once you start, it’s easier to keep going.

4. Set Clear Deadlines – Even if one doesn’t exist, create one. Pressure (in the right amount) can be motivating.

5. Remove Distractions – Phone on silent, notifications off, and a workspace free of unnecessary clutter. Out of sight, out of mind.

6. Accountability Partner – Tell someone your plan and ask them to check in on you. Sometimes, knowing someone’s watching helps.

7. Do the Hardest Thing First – Tackle the toughest task early when your energy is highest. The rest of the day feels easier.

8. Reward Yourself – Set up a reward for completing tasks—small wins lead to bigger motivation.

9. Change Your Environment – A new workspace or a change in scenery can help reset focus.

10. 2 minute rule– If a task takes two minutes or less, do it immediately. Prevents small things from piling up.

11. Visualize the End Result – Remind yourself why the task matters and how good it will feel once it’s done.

12. Forgive Yourself for Procrastinating – Don’t waste time feeling guilty. Just restart and keep going.
