ADVOCATING FOR MY REACTIVE DOG
hello! Meet Moose, He just turned 4 this year. We got him during COVID. I own another dog, his name is Jackson. He joined us in 2016. He was able to go out and socialize properly. Moose on the other hand was born during COVID. I wasn’t able to go out and train him as I did with Jackson. Moose is a very reactive dog. I know a lot of people see him and hear his bark and get scared of him. He is just scared of everything. As his owner it’s my job to protect him and advocate for him. We went to the vet the other day. There was a lady with her too little dogs and she had no control over them. Our appointment was over and we were on our way to leave, the lady was allowing her dogs to lunge and bark at Moose. I asked her to get her dogs and she said it’s fine they won’t do anything. I wasn’t going to argue with a grown lady so I went to the receptionist and asked her to help me out. I explained Moose was reactive and she understood and put the lady in a room so me and Moose could walk out. I know this isn’t a big deal to some pet owners but it is to me. I will not allow my dog to be pushed around and put through unnecessary stress because someone else cannot control their dogs. This is so hard when you have two dogs with different personalities! We have one happy go lucky pup that grew up in doggy daycare and one rescue pup that struggles with being reactive. It’s always a challenge going places together to meet both of their needs.
