ナメクジは多くのガーデナーにとって悩みの種ですが、私自身もビオラを育てる中で毎日ナメクジの被害に悩まされてきました。特に黄色いビオラはナメクジの大好物らしく、花びらが短期間で無くなることも多いです。そこで私が実践しているのは、「ナメクジ用おとりバイキング」を設置すること。おとりの花や葉を湿らせてわざとナメクジを誘導し、被害を分散させています。また、ナメクジは学習能力があり、パトロール時間を毎日変えないと後から現れることも多いので、巡回時間の工夫も効果的でした。 さらに驚いたのは、ナメクジスプレー への耐性も上がっていること。進化しているようで、市販の薬剤だけに頼らない複合的な対策が必須だと実感しています。私の経験では、ナメクジ対策だけでなく、庭の生態系の把握も重要です。なんと、ムカデがダンゴムシを食べており、ダンゴムシは塩だらけのナメクジも食べるという食物連鎖が成立しているのです。これは自然の害虫コントロールとして利用できるヒントかもしれません。 ガーデニングでは害虫とどう共存し、どう抑制するかが大切。ナメクジをただ駆除するのではなく、うまく誘導し被害を最小限に抑える私の体験は、同じ悩みをもつ方に参考にしてほしいと思います。これからも観察と工夫を続けて、花を綺麗に保ちたいと思います。
