we’re all working in ways that is not alwyas seen

... Read moreFrom my own experience and conversations I've overheard, it's clear that the definition of "work" for mothers is incredibly diverse and often underestimated. Whether you're a working mum juggling professional responsibilities or a stay-at-home mum managing household duties, the effort required is immense and often invisible to the outside world. One thing that really resonated with me was hearing someone say, "Your wife works?" followed by surprise when learning she also takes care of the kids. Another comment I heard, "My wife doesn't work, but I still have to take care of her and the kids' expenses," highlights just how nuanced and complex the idea of work within motherhood is. It’s not just about earning an income; it’s about the countless tasks, mental load, and emotional support involved. Motherhood, whether at home or in the workforce, absolutely qualifies as work. Some mums focus more on their careers, others dedicate themselves to building a nurturing home environment, and many do a bit of both simultaneously. This blend of roles doesn't lend itself to easy comparison because each has its own unique demands and rewards. Personally, I’ve learned that acknowledging and appreciating the “behind-the-scenes” efforts—from managing schedules to emotional labor—is essential. Often, only those living the reality fully understand how strenuous this work is. Recognizing these varied forms of labor can foster empathy and support among families and communities. So when you ask what "work" looks like in your life, it could mean anything from professional achievements to everyday caregiving. Embracing this broader perspective helps us honor every mother’s contribution, whether visible or not.

“I’ll start when I’m ready.” Sound familiar? That was me for years. Always waiting for the perfect time — for life to get easier, for things to align, for the fear to disappear. But it doesn’t work that way. You don’t wake up one day suddenly ready. You build readiness by showing up — me

Ever heard of Parkinson’s Law? No? You would have definitely experienced it nonetheless. Parkinson’s Law states that work expands to fill the time available for its completion, regardless of the task’s actual complexity. This is why we often work for longer, but do not get more work done. -
