I used to think success had to look a certain way.

Changing my mindset about success has been a transformative journey. Initially, like many, I believed success was defined by traditional markers: a corporate job, a prestigious title, and a predictable career path. However, becoming a mother profoundly shifted my priorities and perspective. Parenthood brings so many new challenges and joys that reshape what fulfillment means on a very personal level. Swimming, which started as a simple activity, became more than a hobby—it evolved into a critical part of my identity. Teaching children how to swim introduced me to a supportive community and gave me a platform to empower young learners with an essential life skill. The experience of working with children in the water has been rewarding beyond measure, nurturing patience and empathy in ways I hadn't anticipated. One of the proudest moments was our first mermaid collaboration with SAFRA Toa Payoh, where carrying those monofins symbolized more than just swim equipment; it was a tangible reminder of how far I’ve come from my earlier notions of success. It showed me that creating something authentic and meaningful in alignment with who I am now matters more than conforming to any traditional blueprint. I’ve realized success doesn't have to fit a conventional mold. For me, it now means building a life and career that reflect my values, passions, and evolving identity as a mum of three and swim teacher. This redefined success feels genuine, sustainable, and joyful.
